Concert Photos: Howard Jones and ABC with Haircut One Hundred at TempleLive

Electronic music pioneer Howard Jones, who’s career started 1983, brought his very English songwriting and pioneering synthesizers to TempleLive this weekend. The 14-song set kicked off with “Pearl in the Shell” and continued with “New Song,” “Like to Get to Know You Well,” “Eagle Will Fly Away,” “Everlasting Love” and “The One to Love You.” At one point, Jones removed his full-length coat because of the oppressive heat and donned a black and yellow letterman jacket.

Next up was the Kajagoogoo cover “Too Shy,” followed by “Life in One Day” and “No One Is to Blame,” with Jones — on keyboards — offering a beautiful, heartfelt rendition. The set continued with “Hide & Seek,” The Killers cover “Human,” “The Prisoner“ and “What Is Love.” The encore was a dance version of “Things Can Only Get Better,” with fans grooving along to the heavy synth beat.

ABC has enjoyed an amazing career, dating back to 1982 with the smash debut album “The Lexicon of Love.” The 13-song classics-filled set kicked off with “When Smokey Sings” and continued with “Show Me,” “(How to Be a) Millionaire,” “Viva Love,” “Poison Arrow,” “King Without a Crown,” “That Was Then but This Is Now,” “Tears Are Not Enough,” “All of My Heart,” “Be Near Me” and, finally, “The Look of Love (Part One).”

The show opener was Haircut One Hundred, the British new wave/funk group formed in 1980 and fronted by vocalist and guitarist Nick Heyward. The 5-song set included “Kingsize,” “Love’s Got Me in Triangles,” “Fantastic Day,” “Love Plus One” and “Favourite Shirts.”
