Cleveland hip-hop heads rejoice! While you were eating your body weight in hot dogs and hamburgers over the July 4th weekend, Cleveland native Kid Cudi took to Twitter to announce that his next album, titled Speedin’ Bullet to Heaven, is almost finished. Cudi (real name Scott Mescudi) added that the first single should be released by the end of July.

Additionally, and to the dismay of some of Cudi’s fans, he also elaborated on the type of music to expect on Speedin’ Bullet to Heaven.

For the uninitiated, Cudi took a similar approach on his rap-rock album WZRD in 2012. Cudi decided to move away from rapping over dope beats and instead picked up a guitar and started singing. The results were definitively mediocre, according to 10 critic reviews at Metacritic.

Looking at the bright side, Cudi does feel that he has poured all of himself into this album. (As opposed to only pouring half of himself into his previous albums? I’m looking at you, WZRD.)

Speedin’ Bullet to Heaven comes at a perfect time for Cudi as his pop culture exposure has hit an all-time high. Cudi starred in this summer’s Entourage movie and recently took over for the great Reggie Watts as the bandleader on IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang!

Cudi released a snippet of a song from Speedin’ Bullet to Heaven in May but quickly deleted the tweet. Check out the rough 30 seconds of material below and keep posted to Kid Cudi’s Twitter for more announcements and general debauchery.

By day, Tyler Singleton studies journalism at Kent State University. By night, he pledges to serve and protect the public as a Geek Squad Agent. Tyler has been “waiting for next year” his entire life and even this love for Cleveland sports led to his name: Tyler as in Ty Detmer, another mediocre Browns quarterback. Tyler’s work has been published by the Kent Stater, Kent State’s newspaper and KSUbuzz.com, Kent State’s arts and entertainment website.
