Back in the ’70s, Emerson, Lake and Palmer emerged as one of prog rock’s most popular acts. The band split up in 1998 (and keyboardist Keith Emerson died earlier this year), but drummer Carl Palmer continues to tour and record.

In the midst of a tour that finds him paying tribute to ELP, he brings his Carl Palmer’s ELP LEGACY – Remembering Keith And the Music of Emerson Lake & Palmer to Valley Forge High School for a benefit event that includes a screening of Alive Inside, an award-winning documentary about the power of music to help those living with dementia. Palmer will also play with members of the Valley Forge High School Marching Band.

The documentary film follows social worker Dan Cohen (founder of the nonprofit Music & Memory) as he “restores “a deep sense of self to those suffering from memory loss and fights a broken healthcare system to reveal music’s ability to combat it.” The film includes interviews with family members who witness the “miraculous effects” of music; the doc also includes interviews with experts such as neurologist and best-selling author Oliver Sacks and jazz singer Bobby McFerrin.

The screening serves as a benefit to expand the “Adopt an Elder/Build a Bridge” program and will include a Q&A session with filmmaker Michael Rossato-Bennett. The event takes place at 5 p.m. on June 18. Tickets can be purchased online at www.AliveInside.org/carlpalmer/.
