Tides are Rising (self-released)

On his Facebook page, singer-guitarist Joe Moorhead boasts that his music is like “a rum-soaked cool breeze off an island shore.” You certainly can’t accuse the guy of false advertising. His new album opens with “Drinks in Our Hands,” a tune that, as its title implies, is about chilling at the beach with a drink in your hand. The song’s laid-back vibe evokes the music of Jack Johnson and G. Love & Special Sauce. While Moorhead usually sticks to acoustic melodies, he unleashes some fierce blues riffs on “Sunshine Driving” and “Lord Knows I’m Trying,” showing off his musical dexterity in the process

Joe Moorhead performs at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at McCarthy’s Downtown.
