The Black Keys’ Pat Carney Wrote the Theme to Netflix’s ‘BoJack Horseman’ With His Uncle

Over the weekend, Netflix users likely saw a cartoon horse dressed hilariously like a man at the top of their screen. The video streaming website had debuted its latest original series, BoJack Horseman. 

And if users clicked through, they’d find the drum beats kicking around the show’s theme song eerily familiar. Was that Pat Carney? Yes, yes, it was.

The Black Keys drummer teamed up with his uncle, sax player Ralph Carney, to create the woozy tune. Yay Akron. Listen here:

The show, produced by Will Arnett (who also supplies BoJack’s voice and comic stylings), draws wonderfully from the sort of droll absurdism that fills out the likes of Archer and Bob’s Burgers. The loose central narrative has to do vaguely with BoJack’s down-on-his-luck middle age, 20 years after starring on a popular sitcom. Animal puns bound.
