39 years ago today, the Cleveland Indians offered fans 10-cent beers and, well, the rest is a tidy chapter in Cleveland’s rather ignominious history.

Now That’s Class will once again, as they have in recent years, celebrate with a 10-cent beer night of their own. Details from their site:

10 CENT BEER NIGHT RETURNS
39th anniversary celebration sponsored by LOTUS PRINTING. June 4, 1974. 10 tickets for $1. We will have 4 kegs starting at 6 pm. It always runs out early so get here on time!

Below, to get you in the mood, a song — “The Ballad of Ten Cent Beer Night.” Enjoy.

  1. I was only 12 years old at the time, and not at the game, but remember it well. Drunks everywhere. For 3 bucks you could get a bleacher seat and 10 beers. Some years later, I saw an interview with the head umpire. He said that the two toughest games he ever called were this one, and the one at Yankee Stadium right after Thurman Munson was killed in plane crash trying to land his Lear Jet at Akron Canton Airport.
