A new study released by Destination Cleveland this morning shows that in 2017 the area brought in 18.2 million visitors, a 2.3 percent increase over the year prior.
In general, tourism is up throughout the country, and Ohio’s other big C cities, Columbus and Cincinnati, attracted 3 percent and 2 percent more visitors respectively.
More tourists also means good things for the local economy. An economic impact study, also released today, showed that the tourism industry contributed $8.8 billion to Cuyahoga County’s economy. Both Cleveland studies were conducted by the Philidelphia-based group Tourism Economics.
National outlets have written about what a diamond-in-the-rough Cleveland is for years now, and two recent articles from the Daily Mail and Thrillist (where they actually label the city the “Portland of the east”) show these type of stories probably aren’t dwindling any time soon.
Destination Cleveland hopes to see 20 million visitors by the year 2020, but it will be interesting to see how these numbers fluctuate in the next year without the presence of LeBron James to lure potential tourists.

The other GILBERT who is ripping us off makes more than $300,000!!! to push this kind of info out.
At that salary, while cleveland is mired in poverty, its all about his money. How he looks in the mirror is beyond me.
Can anyone believe that even one person came here because of Destination Cleveland?
This study was done about visitors. What is your problem with Gilbert? From what I understand he is one of the best at his job in the country. Most people in his position make even more money. Many people came to Cleveland because of the efforts of all the people who work for Destination Cleveland. We wouldn’t have gotten 50,000 people here for the R N C without them
