A moment with the good Rev. R.A. Vernon

It’s amazing what people have turned the church into. These “mega churches” are becoming more and more wordly, the pastors are no where near humble……the act as if they are bigger than God!

Unless you have been to the Word Church or have seen what the PEOPLE at the chruch have done, you have nothing to say. Research what The WORD CHRUCH is doing and has been doing for the community, not just the church but the community. May be you need to look at yourself as a Christian as where you hatred and judgement is coming from. Pastor Vernon is a very humble person and has done more things for others than what I am sure you have or will ever do. How about lift people up instead of tearing them out.If you feel that things need to change in the world pray that you are put in the potition to help things change.
Something is wrong with a chruch when it is not growing, as christian we want to win more poeple to Christ not send them off because the church is “getting to big”

I Love the Word Church and pastor R.A. VERNON is doing a great ministry. I enjoy him in the morning preaching the Word of God.I really enjoy his teaching and espcially his sermon on Woman how much are you Worth? Keep on educating us!!! Much Love

Rev. Vernon is far from a “ringmaster” style preacher! If you haven’t watched him before, I suggest you do so before passing judgement…

I just saw his daughter on MTV’s sweet 16 show and was appalled. That whole show was a disappointment. I was hoping to see a solid christian witness on television and saw nothing that came close. There was so much spiritual immaturity on display. Our faith should be evidenced in our desires and our actions.
I think the larger issue about the beef on this entry is that there are a significant number of christians who HATE prosperity preaching and watered down gospels.

What verses in the bible say that poverty is a work of the devil and what verses in the bible encourage economic empowerment? I’ve read the bible and I cannot find one.
I can read the Old Testament and find promises made to God’s elect under the Old Covenant (in short: blessings for obedience, curses for disobedience), but our current blessings as new covenant believers are spiritual blessings (salvation, sanctification) that come result of Christ’s obedience, crucifixion and resurrection.
There’s nothing wrong with encouraging good stewardship over the resources that God has given and teaching money management to church members, but those things should not be the focus. They should be secondary.
GOD should be the focus. God is the gospel. He is not a means to an end, but rather he is the end, he is our pleasure, treasure and reward…not things. Psalm 73 shows the heart that believers are to have. The psalmist wasn’t expressing a desire for worldly things and STUFF, but rather for his savior and redeemer.
In churches like this, God is replaced with THINGS. That is idolatry, materialism and covetousness. I’m not condemning his ministry, but as you said the fact that i’ve learned about what is going on there only gives me something else to pray for…because my displeasure wont change anyone’s heart, the bible says that our sanctification is the spirit’s rendering.

It is so funny to me how up tight Pastor Vernon’s followers get at the responses that people give regarding his bringing of the “Word” when the reality is he is all about his self.
I know three people who attend his church, all of which are women…and everytime you say something about their “DADDY” (as he so often is referred to) all hell breaks loose.
The bottom line is he is living in the lap of luxury when members of his church are not making ends meet literally. He is driving the best and flying in his own personal jet when members of his church are jobless and struggling.
Shirelle hit it on the head and I couldn’t agree with her more Pastor Vernon does think he is above God, just as his good friend Creflo, and the rest of the fakes who head these mega churches. It’s sad….

I too saw MTV’s My Super Sweet 16 Party,
and was also too out done. His daughter revealed aside that many may never get to see. She was in her closet kissing purses and talking back to her mother about always getting what she wants (such arrogance).
Oh and let’s not forget her over the top party at the Rock and Roll hall of fame…3 scooters not 1 like her mother claimed she would be getting and her arrival in a private jet.
A disgrace is what it is. There was more humping on the dance floor than the law should allow. I never would of guessed it was a party for a 16 year old “Christian”
But he’s humble…one would think some of his “humbleness” would spill over into his immediate family. Seeing as though they are a direct reflection of him.
The bottom line is it’s a front. As time will go on Pastor Vernon will get to a point where he get’s more comfortable in his wealth all that so called “humbleness” you claim he has (Adama) will go right out the window. It will be replaced with cockyness instead.
Oh I’m sorry he’s already at that point.

I too, watched the “Super Sweet Sixteen” episode in which he allowed such excess. Does the Pastor preach the seven sins? Isn’t vanity one of them? I am Orthodox and my cousin is an Orthodox Priest in Ohio, he has a wife and three children, when he comes to bless our home, he will not take money, he asks us to give it to the Church for the underprivileged. He thinks of God and the Church before himself, to the point that he has a night job to help support his family, in addition to which, he is ALWAYS there for his parishioners and gives his heart to all who need it. He does not need designer clothing, he lives in a humble, middle class neighborhood. More importantly he teaches this to his children along with his lovely wife. True service is to God, not “room service” or “Lip service”. I know when I tithe at Church, my dollars are not spent on someone else’s designer bag or private jet. I am not jealous by any means, but if you preach it, live it.

I have also watched the My Super Sweet 16 episode. Although, we do have to watch what we say so that we do not judge, there are facts and issues that can be brought to the forefront. Two of those facts/issues is that Pastor Vernon’s daughter did say that Jesus would want her to have her party without limitations and that she did say that she is the princess of the house and that she can have whatever she wants.
The issues that come to mind is that this young woman believes that it’s ok to be selfish and that she can have whatever she wants no matter how she acts. She even defies her mother’s authority when her mother tells her that she might not get the scooter that she wants because of the price and her daughter said basically, why should price matter?
Although, it is true that the Pastor wanted to focus the party more on what he thought might be more “Christian themes”. For example, him not wanting her to have a rock party and the party planner wanting her to be called a God Star instead of a Rock Star and him not wanting the kids to dance risque and listen to negative music does not negate the fact that his daughter boasts about the expensive purses she has and that she made a dance routine to the song by Rhianna “Umbrella” which isn’t a negative song but it doesn’t glorify God.
I don’t know..it seems that if we are Christians and we say that we are going to walk it out, we really should strive to walk it out all of the way and not partially.
I agree with the others that posted and said that God should be the focus, not materialism and wealth. It appears to be a misconception and a fallacy when people see some Christians try to show how blessed they are by the wealth that they accumulate. There are so many areas where we as Christian can be blessed. Whatever happened to being thankful that we are breathing, that we have the use of our limbs or the most important thing of all that Jesus sacrificed himself to die for our sins so that we may be able to have eternal life with God the Father? What about everything that King Solomon said about riches and wealth not being as important because we cannot take it with us and that our lives are so fragile (Ecclesiastes)? If anyone had reason to boast, it would be him.
I guess that gets lost in the feel good and prosperity messages…

MTV edit the piece to give it the slant they felt would most interest the viewers. And it worked, everyone is talking. MTV is an entertainment company and they objective is to entertainment. They shoot footage and then they edit and control what we (the viewer) actually sees. I tried to watch one of the Super Sweet 16 episodes and had to turn it off because it made me sick to my stomache. MTV shot a lot of footage in the church and showed approximately 5 seconds of it. It called a reality show but it isn’t because the participants and prompted on what to say and the production company sets up some of the scenario…why because its entertainment. The used real people but stage events. Anyone who has every participated or know anyone who has participated in reality tv or even game shows knows events are staged. It was not a fact based documentary. It’s alright to have an opinion but do you have the fact? I to much to focus on to clean my own house/ God is and always will be the ultimate judge because He alone knows a man’s heart. We judge by what we see, he judges by what he knows. Someone spoke of Solomon. God asked Solomon for wisdom and but God also decided to betow upon him, in addition to wisdom, great wealth. If he were anything but a pastor, Pastor Vernon’s rags to riches story would be heraled by everyone as a spetacular accomplishment. But some how the servant’s of God, are not supposed to be walking in the blessings of riches. I don’t know but it seems to me, if your Mand of God is teaching you how to live right, serve God, make Him the head of your life, Love him first and he also preaches on a life of abudance I have no problem with that. Jesus said I come that you might have life and have it more abudantly….abundant health, abundant peace, abundant grace, abundant wealth….where should the abundance end or begin??????

I just read my post, so many errors I hope you understand the gist of what I was trying to say. Solomon of course asked God for wisdom, God doesn’t need to ask Solomon for anything beause the earth is His and the fullness thereof. Why wouldn’t God want His children to prosper in all areas of their life? He wants the world to His children you can live for God, serve Him and still be successful tithe paying entrepreneur.

Baaaaa, baaaaa, baaaa, just a bunch of sheep! RA Vernon is a man, just like other
men, his pants go on one leg at a time.
I would have truly been impressed had that
money been used to rehab a house that has been forclosed on, to provide shelter for some the thousands of homeless in this city. How about using it to construct a new home for a family still displaced by hurricane Katrina? What about the number of children in this city who go to bed hungry, why not make a several hundred thousand dollar donation to a food pantry, and have his daughter volunteer her time, talk about a real lesson in humility, and humanity. This kind of excess is disgraceful and there is nothing Christ like about it. The mega-churches are a business and their tax exempt status should seriously be in question, but in order to do that the government would have to examine closely the largest mega-chuch of all and that is the Catholic church.

After listening to RA Vernon discuss this matter on the Russ Parr radio show. I am disgusted. I do not care if people consider me to be passing judgement, because these are my express opinions and will do nothing to further tarnish the reputation of RA Vernon.
On MTV, it was expressed that this was a $500,000 dollar party. RA Vernon countered that this was only a $25,000 party, and that any man that had the money to spend on his child and did not is cheap. RA Vernon expressed that this money came from his own personal business and not from the church.
I do not want to spend a great deal of time pointing out every inconsistency in his statements (It would definitely take a great deal of my time), I would just like to point out the major obvious facts.
In an impoverished community how can a preacher of the word of God squander $25,000 with his own hands, and with those same hands turn to his congregation with open palms requesting tide? I whole heartedly believe that everyone should legitemately try to prosper and flourish. I never saw any statement in the Bible contradictory to that. I believe that a preacher has that right as well. Yet is the church a vehicle for his business or is his business a vehicle for the church?
I am not a rich nor poor man, but how many of us out there even if we had $25,000 to spend, would spend it on a child’s birthday party. I would be willing to make a wager that whoever is reading this article that has children, has probably seen some times, they would love to be able to give a $250 birthday party for their child. I guess we are just not as blessed as RA Vernon.

Pastor Vernon is a great man, and a man of integrity. He gives open disclosure to the churchâ€™s finances. What he wants to do with his money with his family is up to him. How many times have you over spent on your child to make them happy? If you worked as hard as he does, and mad has much as he does then you would probably spend more. You donâ€™t know how much he has given in his time and money to help out others in need. There will always be people stuggling, so is he not suppose to enjoy his success because so and so down the street canâ€™t pay her bills, but is mis-managing her money. Donâ€™t hate on the man just because you donâ€™t have the drive and the will to help to transform the city as he has, and to do it for God. I love you Pastor Vernon, and you keep doing you, because you have spoken into my life in more ways than money can ever buy.

I am a current member of the WORD Church. Let me being by saying that Pastor Vernon isn’t personally doing things for people the CHURCH is what helps the members. He isn’t going in his pocket helping anyone. Why would MTV lie about the cost of party in which they didn’t pay for? Vernon is a hypocrite. I’ve sat in the 2nd row of the 12:30 service on many occasions and listened to him beg for money and imply that you aren’t going to heave unless you are cutting him a check. Don’t get me wrong, I think he is a GREAT motivational speaker but for people to talk about a human being as though he is GOD is freightening and almost cult-like. I heard both interviews that he gave, first to 107.9’s Sam Sylk and then to Russ Parr in which he really didn’t answer the questions asked of him. He danced around them, until finally they said to him “we aren’t talking about other pastors, we are talking about you in specific and why not just answer the question.” He talked about he did research on MTV’s Sweet 16 before agreed to do the show. He did learn that the show is typically spoiled teens with no respect for their parents? His defense what that his step-daughter was “made” to act a certain way. Hmmm I find it interesting that out of his mouth he is saying his girl doesn’t have a mind of her own and easy pursued. Although wasn’t her mom with her the entire time and said nothing? Furthermore, on numerous occasions Pastor Vernon has preached about health and being physically fit….has he not taught this to his own daughter?

L Quinn, I think you hit the nail right on the head.. I use to go to the church back in the early days when it was at my old highschool and when he went to mapletown.. but I could not continue to follow a man that was such a hypocrite. He told Sam Sylk he wouldnt call into Russ Parr, because they didnt know him and the local media here did. I wake up this morning to find out he called in only to half answer questions.

it is really sad that the members of the word church are as brainwashed as they are! I went to the church one time and was completely turned off. Every other word that came out of his mouth was about tithe. that is very sad. I then pick up the offering envelope which tells you how much you are supposed to put in the envelope. He is a complete hypocrite and it is very sad to see that he has so many followers. I’m still trying to figure out what everyone is following.

How To Recognize That You Are Attending A Cult or a Church:
1. The pastor puts other people, churches down to elevate themselves
2. The pastor prepares his members what to say in response to anyone that questions the church or pastor’s decisions or behavior.
3. There are more images and pictures of the pastor than images of christianity, Christ, or God’s word.
4. The pastor only requires a select few to tithe or give offerings.
5. The pastor has a security staff, armor bearer or hires armed body guards.
6. The pastor personally requires armor bearers to live in close proximity of his place of residence
7. The pastor has certain individuals to carry his bible, towel, or brief case
8. The pastor has biblically unsound guest preachers to speak.
9. The pastor lies about his education, finances, and openly discusses sexual behaviors of himself and his wife
10. The pastor allows his congregation to call him anything else other than pastor.
11. The pastor has more images of himself through the city his church is, as well as surrounding cities as a mode of secular advertising.
12. The pastor’s website is regulated to delete all negative comments, questions, or concerns about his church and leadership.
13. The pastor justifies or ignores questionable behavoir of not only himself but those that are close to him.
14. The pastor openly speaks in tongues during any given church service.
15. The pastor raises more than one offering due to expenses and purchases the church has incurred due to bad financial decisions.
16. The pastor declines to perform wedding ceremonies on the day that potential couples have prayed on and decided.
17. The pastor indirectly or subtlely directs his preaching or ministry focus on one gender, preferably women, twice as long as the opposite gender or both.
18. The pastor does his alms before men to be seen by men, whether he does it on purpose or not.
19. The pastor preaches against homosexual lifestlyes, but allows effeminate men to be in leadership positions and direct the choir.
20. The pastor’s church has more people visit the church than actual members.

I am a member of the Word, I love my church, and the Pastor and his family. People will feel the way they feel all day long so why debate, to all who aren’t feeling the Pastor or the Vision that is most definitely ok with me and im sure with everyone that belongs to the church as Pastor says, worry when they don’t talk about us. If you find something wrong with the church, dont dog us out Pray for us, isnt that what you do when you love God? not judge or condem others for what ever reason….if there is anything foul going on God will handle that certainly..THank YOu God Bless…

Hello, i am a member at The Word church, Pastor HAS taught us to love Jesus, and i do and put Him first in EVERYTHING that we do. He IS a humble sevant of God, and does more for people thank anyone will ever know. people will have, and are entilted to their own personal opionon, but you should at least know the facts before you just start putting things out there, especially when they arnt right. He does not think he is higher or better than anyone, he will tell you himself that he puts his pants on one leg at a time, the man is successfull, blessed, annointed, highly favored, and woulnt be any of what he is if he wasnt, or wasnt in line with God, and what he wants him to do. God let him go through this because He knew he could handle it, and he is and did very good. i have been under this man of God for almost four years, and i love him, and thank God for him, God has taught me so much about him through pastor its rediculious, also one more thing thank you if youve read this whole blog by the way, a cult is somthing that exaults, praises, or glorifies the leader more than anytning else, and that is not the case at The Word, we love us some pastor, but we love Jesus more than ANYTHING, and that is what where there for. He does not beg for money, he simply asks us to be obediant to the Word of God and pay our tithes, and when we feel led to sow seeds. there has been times where he hasnt even raised an offering, but yall dont want to talk about that, like having his daughter on mtv dosnt matter that THOUSANDS have gave their life to Jesus Christ because of his ministry i could go on and on but imma stop there thank you for your time and God bless you, and pry for us :), Thanks.

I am just here to say THank YOu Jesus im seein more and more of my siters and brothers tastefully speak on our integrity at the Word Church….Does anyone really know how it feels to be a consistant tither and know a vision and watch it manifest before your eyes in record time?? not things for the pastor but things for the community.. it is sweet to know i helped with that not to mention the blessings i receive personally for doing right according to God’s word..i would say to all others take a look at your churches accomplishments, doesnt it feel good to know you made it happen??? if you look and see more could be done then give more im telling you the blessings will come to you. I heard allot of people talking about Pastor Vernon and refering him to Soloman – who indeed asked God for wisdom and God made him rich – and everybody starts and stops there. There is a second half to this story and it’s found in the life of his son.
Solomans wealth put such a strain on the Nation of Isreal that when his son came to power they asked him to relieve them or they would revolt, the son said no and you end up with two nations as war with each other.
The man glories wealth, and he was on a show that’s main purpose was to glorify wealth.
Know who you are dealing with and know the full story.

John 8:6-8
6This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

He meant in this matter – they were as guilty as the woman in this matter. This is aeperate matter

IT is amazing to see that after 3 weeks this goes on does anyone else have anything going on other thatn what a pastor done right or wrong?? if indeed wrong has been done it will manifest but battleing back and forth isnt what is going to do this…there are two sides the people who have no ill feelings about it and those that do you wont change the minds of either this has got to be the most nerve wrecking thing. Not because of the things said about my pastor but because people dont know the hell we catch as members for less than this incident so imagine something such as this that has been given such magnitude…Once again i say Pray for the Pastor isnt that what good Christians do when they feel something is wrong with any individual?? is it a difference because he’s a pastor are we not to pray for him as well? for each supporter there is a non supporter and i want to thank both because all though i am a supporter i am learning from both sides not to leave my church but things you probably dont realize you are teaching in your attempts to bring down pastors of mega churches.. God has the last call on everything bottom line, not me, not you , not even the government so everyone be blessed and I suppose keep teaching and hopfully learning…One thing awsome that has come from all of this is our OVerflow was off the hook with unsuspecting souls who at the end became members of the Word Church!! I thank God for that.

Sister, we live in an age of “hating”,
but don’t confuse hating with reaching. No one hates you or your church, but you cannot substitute the word of God and call it a church. You cannot excuse a lifestyle choice and not call it sin. Not saying that no one else sins, but call it what it is.
This has everything and nothing to do with your pastor. This is about a current trend in church of re-defining what it means to be christian and what the bible says about certain things. I actually wish no ill-will to the word church and I wish it nothing but growth, but do so biblically. Everything I have posted can be backed up biblically.
If you have no problem with going to a church where the pastor has taken a significant amount of the money taken in and used it for his own personal gain, then so be it, just don’t call it biblical.

Im not saying that I dont know if you have ever been to our church, but its nice and i feel its biblical i personally put more attention into the Word of God not Pastor Vernon, he is a man just like any other man and im sure he will make mistakes or has to fight the same demons all of us do..I am simply stating you cant say that what he has is because he is robbing his church. I feel that when i look around at my church and i see its beauty, when i see the thousands of children that receive school supplies or the people in need given food from our food pantry or new clothes from our church, when i see hundreds of teens in a safe environment skating, eating playin ball shootin pool and not in the street, when i see all the other things that are given to the community this party doesnt even register on my radar…for argument sake if 25,000 came out of the tithes compared to the amount taken in and the expenses spent out its a penny and if it is wrong once again he will have to answer to God…I personally dont feel anything wrong is going on and that if it is God will reveal it to the fullest and not thru a child’s party. I feel like this Pastors have always received salaries from the church this is not new, back then we hated because pastor had a cadillac, now the church is much bigger so there is more income and bigger lifestyles, i too would have a greater lifestyle if i made greater money which i will really soon and i plan to reward myself for hard work i dont want anyone to take that away from me and i dont think it should be taken away from any pastors. i know there are crooks and as you can see in the news they are coming out so once again if there is somthing wrong going on it will come out, i see valid points from all sides of this i just think its something you’d have to see for self, every church isnt for everybody and thats just the way the cookie crumbles..I wasnt sayin anyone here was attacking me i was speaking in general..YOu would be surprised!!! lol i am tellin you…lol. Until that man preaches a Word to me I cant verify myself in the Bible he is fine with me and even at that point before i walk away from my church I will march right up to him with my Bible and ask where it came from…

Although I have never been to the Word church, I grew up in the same district as Vernon. I remember him as a teenage minister. So, yeah, sometimes it pays to know who you are talking too.

I understand and respect that too..Im sure you are not the same person you were as a teen are you?? im not. I hope you dont feel im debating with you because by no way shape or form am i with you nnod or anyone else simply voiceing my opinion. I guess this is why we should never lose focus of God, i know i won’t so really although i love my pastor dearly, like he often times tells us it is not about him, it is about GOD and i trust God has a hand on us all…much luv hon! 🙂

No offense, I am sure that he is not the same person. And it’s good to see him doing well, I can only hope to have 1/3 of the success that he has had when and if I am ever called to Pastor a church.
But, that in mind, the bible is the bible and we have to be true to God’s word, and that’s all I am saying. Just because you pastor a church period, does not make you exempt.

Well to begin with it does not matter how humble a pastor seems to be or how much he helps people if they are not rightly dividing the word of truth.Minister Vernon does not rightly divide the word of truth. Tithing is NOT for the new testament church you will not find it in the new testament anywhere. All you that are members of the so called word (building) church are being bamboozled hoodwinked and tricked. Any pastor that PREACHES OR TEACHES tithes is a thief(kleptos)they are taking peoples money illegally. Dont you people study your own bible to find out the real truth. God has not authorized any man to recieve tithes unless he is a Levite and minister Vernon is not a Levite. Wake up people and do the math. the more people you can get to commit to a building and beg for their money the more money you are going to get. They say that its Gods money but I have to ask when does God ever get the money, does he come down to get it, does he send jesus down to get it, or does your pastor collect so much and then take it up himself.John 10:10 is not talking about the devil but about such men as minister vernon who steal people money illegally. its a shame that people dont study for themslves to find out the truth. Just because a building has a lot of members dont mean that God is in it. Islam has millions of members but God aint in it. I know what Jesus said to the Pharisees in Matthew 23:23 but thats not the new testament. thats right the gospels are not new testament.because Jesus was still alive and had not yet died so that was still old testament. the new testament didnt come into affect until the day of pentecost. Read hebrews 9:16&17.there must be the death of the testator before the testament is valid.

Are you really a Bishop??? im not being funny i just thought that as a man of God you would state your points, (facts) or what have you then encourage people to Pray for Pastor Vernon, and ask God for guidance and knowledge for us all to have a more wisdom and a better understanding instead of calling him a crook, clepto or what ever it is that you posted…Does it ever stop saying in either testement not to judge any man?? im curious thats all….

Tithing is giving back to God, in thanksgiving, a portion of what He has given to us. In our tithing we show that we want to help the Church do God’s work.
The word tithe means tenth. A tithe is the first tenth of a wage earner’s income. Tithing is giving back to God something God gave in the first place. Tithing is not just any tenth; it is the first tenth of one’s income-salary, dividends, interest-income from any source.
The difficulty of raising funds for the growing needs of the Church has led to a modified and voluntary system of tithing.

Bishop can you elaborate on these things i did find from another church?? i am a supporter of Vernon and will remain but like i have told many people that have spoken up for him as well as against him i learn a great deal from both sides because i still go to church for one reason and that is not the RA Vernon show it is for the Word..Is it your duty to reach out to ministers or pastors or what have you and correct them or offer them knowledge?? im a hair stylist i dont know but when im at work and see a co worker doing something wrong i do feel somewhat responsible to speak up..You feel me?

Why is it alright for the unsaved people to have wealth and to treat their children with all that money can buy, byt when a person who is saved and doing well in his personal and profeesional life does the same thing it is wrong? I attend the Word Church. I do not believe that MY God wants His people poor mouthed and begging for everything that they need. At this church a person can get first the word of God, a GED, credit counceling, greif counceling, the youth of the church are taught that if you keep pressing on you will reap the benefits of rightous living without resorting to drugs and street crimes. I wish the doubters and nay sayers would come to the church and see what we do in Gods name because remember all that is done is done for HIS glory. Paster Vernon is a dynamic pastor, but he is not God and he does not try to be, you see the members of the Word Church have minds of our own and we are not lead like sheep to slaughter. Unhappy people who are not looking for joy in the Lord like judging and be littling people who are not like them. The Word Church is not for everyone, just like other churches are not for everyone. We do not all live by the same doctrines, values nor do we all believe the same way. But isn’t it a shame that when we see someone who has accomplished so much that we feel better hating than we feel congratulating? I pray that one day my children will be in a place where they too can spend DESERVED money on my grandchildren. God said that if first we seek HIS face that He will open up the gates of heaven and pour out blessings, that blessings will CHASE you. Paster Vernon, you and my church family are in my prayers always. I suggest that if we want the same blessings that we should FIRST seek HIM, this way we have very little time to judge others that have already accomplished what we are after. I wonder what will happen when all of us start to recieve the fullness of Gods blessings, will we have the grace to walk in our blessings like we are taught? Prayfully I will be skating in God’s Disney Land next Saturday. I wish you all much peace, passion and purpose for the new year.

Gloria, we luv you sister, Im happy to see some of our family finally stepping up, there was another place where opinions were being voiced, and we was getting dogged, out of 60 comments there was 3 of us, and maybe 10 msgs…The owner of the blog said this was one of the longest strings she’d ever had and she has to do more to get the blind church folks attention…The nerve, in the 50 msgs they came down on a blogger that referred to Pastor as Daddy for being a fatherless woman, which turned out to be a 28 year old brother, then they compared Pastor Vernon to Jim Jones, OMG!! its like get over it already so i merely said to her you wonder why this string is so long, but there is clearly more of you than us, one may question whether this blog is a cult she went bolistic, and told me i disrespected her as the creator and blah blah blah, mind you it was a free for all as long as they were speakin on the Word Church so after orinionally welcoming me to her blog and telling me they go hard and the sight wasnt for the faint at heart she banned me!! lol i was dieing, can dish it all day but surely cant take it she deleted that msg soooo fast i thought her response was my entry posting!! lol it was soo funny i felt like i was on playstation trying to kill the big mean monster and i finally did it….take care much love to all!

Well, since the last Sunday service at the word starts at 12:30, you must have been pretty late today if you were posting on this website at 12:20, or do you live there?
Everytime I read one of your posts it reinforces just what all of the “haters” (as your congregation refers to anyone who disagrees) say! But you all have “hater grace”, so it won’t affect you. By the way, where in the Bible does it refer to “hater grace” I would like to read those passages.
I have watched all of the “sermons” that are posted on the internet and found none to be biblically sound. Most don’t even refer to any passages at all. There appears to be no effort to link his message with the true Word at all. But your pastor seems to have confused his word with the true Word.
Please pray for me, since I am so “retarded”. It takes a true Christian to both call someone out of their name, like that, and in the same motion to make fun of a disability that others may truly have.

Im so sorry if you were affended by anything i may have said, do you not know that for every action there is a reaction?? when you post something to me and i feel affended i, in bad judgement strike back, it is fine to have your opinion about anything in life, but do you know how affensive it is when you say things to me and try to turn it into something im being taught wrong at church? you dont have to go to or ever come to the word but why automatically believe that because i go there i eat breathe and what ever else The Word Church? I keep saying this, you all wouldn’t be trying so hard to defend your pastor if he was in the right. Just admit it was wrong, do a Kirk Franklin, say you got caught up in his own hype and made a move that wasn’t christian. The problem is you and him trying to defend it. I gotta agree with you. I have listened to quite a few of his sermons and have seen very little biblical content, or even the attempt to tie what is being taught to the bible. But you know what? you gotta show the people who go there love, if this is all they see, then this is all they know. Even when you look at the responses in this forum, you’ll see very little biblical content or even an attempt to tie them together, but this is the day in which we live.
It’s hard to have a biblical conversation with someone who does not have biblical understanding or content. But this is what we must do if we want to reach people.
It may sound harsh, but if you are christian then you must also be tied to Christ, and in turn His Word. There is no getting around it, Christ is the only way, and when you go about trying to establish your own form of righteousness, it will end up failing.
You can sit in a congregation of thousands but just bear in mind there is no salvation in numbers, you must give account for you. And regardless of if that preacher is in a storefront or a mega-church the word of God don’t change.

Personally i would never attend a church that didnt preach the word from the word of God, you guys are mistaken and this is not an attempt to defend anyone, but now you are saying to the people that attend here we go to church and hear sermons that are in no way tied to the Bible?? like i said to lil come see for yourself, you have nothing to lose except maybe 20 minutes of wonderful singing, they will not sing any Neo or J. Like I said before I was around before the Word church. I was around for the founding of the church. I was around for the attempts to take over churches by your pastor. I was around for the visits to various local churches and the offering of money to join the Word church. Like I said before, I was there, if you were not, then don’t attempt to comment on them. Many long standing church folk have questioned his motives for years, and this was before the founding of this church. There is pleanty of good reason.
Quoting a verse and the understanding of that verse is two seperate things.
When you cannot worship and relate biblically to the people of God then sister somethings wrong. You cannot come in the year of 2008 and redefine biblical terms that have withstood centuries of carefull study and prayer.
And even if you have a church that has attracted thousands of people, if the only reason they come is become the Word of God has been watered down to the point where it loses it cutting edge, then sister, the question has to be asked, have they really come to God or did they just come to church?
Sometimes the view from the outside looking in is better than from the inside and the refusal to look out.
Don’t be so busy trying not to be your grandmother’s church that you are not serving your grandmother’s God.

Let me start by apologizing if my comment about your user name was a personal insult to you. I was wrong for that; however, I still believe that while it is a great name for a beauty business, it is not my belief that image is everything. To me, it is not. The only image that matters is that we are created in God’s image. Any other image is fleeting. Man looks at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7.
Thank you for inviting me to your church; however, I have been there. I would like to add that while the sermons online are only small snippets, the “Midnight Rumble” video is over 9 minutes long and there are no scriptures associated or tied into the message. Nine minutes is a pretty long time in a sermon. I do believe that your minister is a very good motivational speaker; however, motivational speaking and preaching are not one in the same.
To the argument about the man who invests money that he obtained illegally. Your view is not backed up biblically. It is good that the criminal (I am not referring to your pastor, but to the fictional character mentioned in your post) has turned his life around; however, ill gotten gains will not prosper. Please see Proverbs 10:2. Also in Micah 4:11-13, your reformed criminal would have to give his gains over to the Lord. Keeping them invested and profitting from them would be harmful to him. Please also see Job 20 & 21.

Also, are you part of a Bible Study? It is hard to read the Bible and really understand what is going on and the meaning behind scripture when you are reading alone. I can tell you that from my own personal experience – you can definitely get things twisted. This is not an insult at all!

I would really like to know the “real” story behind the reasons Pastor Vernon was locked out of 2nd Tabernacle. Something tells me that he wasn’t locked out because the church was growing too fast.

What an arrogant, misinformed, presumputous statement to make. Pastor Vernon has no idea what all other churches are doing, and he has no right to elevate himself and his ministry at the expense of other hardworking, Bible teaching pastors, teachers, and churches who are indeed busy in the Lordâ€™s work. The Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 10:12 We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. The great Apostle Paul refused to compare. We should not compare, either.

No that was only part of the reason. But to be honest Image is right. people could have changed in that amount of time. I would certainly like to think that this was true of the pastor, so I’ll keep my comments to myself from now on.
But what I would like for all of you to do is to listen intently to his sermons and you will see a common thread – it’s getting even and getting people back, it really is a “revenge” gospel that he’s preaching, which is why it strikes a cord with people, we all want to get people back, even if it was us who did the wrong.
He is at odds with the black church here in Cleveland and many of the people who started with him have left over it. I could tell you story after story to the point where it will truly un-nerve you. But in the end, like Image says, what good will it really do? Most people at his church have never been in church or listened before him. Vernon is all they know, and they truly identify with that sort of mentality.
I just pray that he has changed and that people don’t regret supportting him in the future.

Great lil…You have as usual made some great points, but i think that maybe, just maybe we all dont hear the same thing in any situation..you feel me? i recently went to two churches on a Sunday mine and another, i enjoyed both, i felt the choir at mine, but not at the other they sang well but it didnt hit me, but the Word from both was awsome..now i have been at the Word and most times its great, but not all times do i feel it in the same way, i always walk away feeling good, but how you look around and some people can be totally in the spirit and some people just sit there?? sometimes God has a word we can all relate to in many different ways, then there are those times when there is a Word you feel is designed just for you like you are being spoken directly to and no one else is even in the room just you and God, i say all this to say maybe you dont hear what we hear because it just may not be a Word for you, or maybe it is not meant for you to receive the Word from that individual..i think God places us everywhere we need or suppose to be including churches..I can listen to a Pastor on TV and be deeply moved as if im sitting there but it doesnt happen every time with everyone…i hope this makes since or i havent mis typed anything..I live my life one day at a time, no regrets only learning experiences so if something were to happen i will feel just fine because I tithed, and gave mostly a 10th but when i couldnt what was on my heart and like ive said before when you see children getting school supplies, people getting clothes and food and your church going out to hug every single baby that comes thru a schools doors after a school shooting and a facility where our teens can go and mingle and have safe fun i cant have any regrets…so just as lil prays there has been a change i Pray for Pastor continuously so if there is something needed to be changed it will be, if there isnt that our church continues with the vision which is a good one despite what you all may think…there is sooo many good things going on that far out number these allege things mentioned on these blogs but still to each his own and i still love everyone..

Oh shoot, and one more thing lil you are so absolutly right when you said Pastor Vernon is some peoples first experience, no saving souls isnt about numbers but no matter what all those that gave there life to Christ regardless of who the pastor is are saved you feel me?? thats like saying im saved and then say something really is going on in the church, God is not gonna say well you arent saved anymore you cant lose your salvation, and me my church i grew up in, in another city was pastored by my uncle, i was given a choice early on not to attend but i cant remember a lick of the word from there, i then went to a small church i gave my life to christ at this church where the pastor was a former hustler and owner of a joint, he is older but he isnt those things anymore and i went there until i came to cleveland and i visited churches and i can say that i stayed away from the word because of stuff like this but then i remember a church opend in my home town our first mega church all the things they say about the word was said about them and i mean all except about the first church but this made me try it for myself and ive been there for 3 now because thats where it was and is for me…man it is soo easy to get long on something that was supposet to be short!! lol. in short i was just makin the point that for many this man is all they know but for many more it isnt. 🙂

I figured that these were directed at me. But no, I will never attend the Word church, due to the integrity of the Pastor. Maybe it’s me, but saw too much for me to ever join.
No, I remember having the conversations trying to get choir members and piano players to stay with our district and group. I remember having revivals and church services with no music because they all left because the Word Church paid them. Some of those little churches still haven’t recovered from those loses. We were blessed at my church to be in a position where we lost a few members but since we have no debt we didn’t miss a beat but so many of those churches were not in our position.
I remember trying to show love and go see Vernon at a church and being extremely upset that when he came to this church his security filled up the middle aisle so that no one could come near him and his body guards sectioned off the pulpit so that even the pastor of the church, the man that invited him, couldn’t go sit down. And the fans of his and they way they talked down to the people there, they were there to support their pastor and nothing more, there was no worshipping of God that day.
I will never forget it.

I visited the Word church one sunday b/c it was too late to go to my mother’s church (the church i regularly attended). I had heard many people say a lot of things (negative) about the Word. They would tell me: “go see what its like, then tell me about it, but I’M not going in there.” Now, my mom always told me, “You don’t have to go where I go, but make sure that wherever you go, they preach from the Bible.” So, armed with the negative comments from others, a critical eye, and a small amount of curiosity, I went to the 12:30pm service. That was in July 2007, needless to say, I’m still there. This is the first time EVER in my life that I have wanted to attend a mid-week Bible study, TITHE, study the Word of God, form a relationship with Him, learn more about Him, serve in a ministry, and actually take interest in helping the community. I’m not sure WHERE the notion that there are no Bible references in the sermons at the Word came from, but I had NEVER purchased a Bible until I started attending the Word; because I needed it to follow the sermon. We are ALWAYS in the Bible. I remember one Bible study when the pastor said “how did you come to Bible study without a Bible?” I don’t think that going on MTV was the best thing to do, however, it does not lower my opinion of or respect for the pastor, nor does it skew my belief in Christianity (I’ve heard that it has turned people off from christianity). I see a church that wants to grow its members, and its community(city)while preaching and walking in the Word of God. I can’t account for or comment about people’s pasts or thier previous actions, but I do know what I see NOW. Since this incident has occured, I have stepped out of the box for a minute and asked myself and God “is something wrong here at the Word?”, “what is the wrong that others see that i am blind to?” God hasn’t gotten back to me on that yet. And believe me, I’m leaving my heart and spirit open to recieve His reply b/c I don’t want to be somewhere where God is NOT. But can the feeling I have everytime I step foot into that building be wrong? Can the fullness I feel and the spiritual growth I’ve obtained so far (‘cuz He ain’t done with me yet)be false? Am I that stupid and easily led? I’m not saying that the Word is the way,the truth, and the light, I just know that I have been inspired to actually WANT to make Godly changes in my life when I started attending the Word. I have not officially joined the church (yet), but even if the Word church is not where God places me, I will always respect the church and the pastor for daring to take the Kingdom to another level. One thing I always will continue pray for, though, for ALL church leaders, is that they are following God’s orders and not thier own. God Bless, and stay positive. Keep doing what you’re doing Word Church, if God is leading you, you have nothing to fear.

Those are tough questions because it’s hard to answer those without appearing to be cold.
I mean you feel better worshiping there, But the definition of worship is action and life. Is the life you live now different then when you went to your previous church?
It’s easy to have motivation when you have teams of people who want to do something, and really that’s great. But at the same time, would you do what you are doing if you were alone? You’ll have to answer that for yourself, and the report you give to God will be from you and no one else.
So that’s really a question God has to answer but bear in mind, is it just a feeling, because those can change, or is it positive change.

You know you really got me thinking with that question. I mean, I personally know of a preacher who will only preach at his own little 20 member church and nowhere else. I also know of a man who will only preach at his own 1,500 member church and is too big time to preach anywhere else. I know of a good friend of mine who is a minister at the Word church and he dosen’t preach there because he is not as good as Vernon (plus I heard that he dosen’t much care for his own minister’s but I don’t know that for fact) but since he goes to the Word Church he is too good to preach at anybody elses church.
So guess where he preaches? Nowhere.
The reason why I posted that is because I am a preacher, it’s what I am called to do. And I will preach wherever and whenever I can. it’s in me. I just don’t know if those others can say that because if the people around them change, they change.
Sometimes I feel that it’s around them, but not in them. I guess that’s what you have to ask yourself, is it “in” you or is it just “around” you?
I don’t even know if that makes sense, I’m going to sleep.

NNOD, in an instant i got the notion to ask, Have you forgiven Pastor Vernon for what every you feel he has done or is doing?? isnt that in the Bible? we have been in continuous dialogue and i feel in my heart, you seem very bitter…Im not saying this in a judgmental way nor am i trying to offend you I think we have gotten past that now on both ends but it is just like you are everywhere with this, this cpeace has shared their experience and its a good one and posed a few questions which may have just been thrown out there to jog your mind not necessarily for you to try and answer but you did.the only thing stated was that we do use the bible very much so, they have the disire to do God’s work (not Vernon’s) basically their life changed and it made them want to be in a closer walk with God (not Vernon) can you tell me why that isnt possible? if he/she went to any other church you would not say that, it just saddens me that you just dont seem to want anyone to have a good thing come from this church because you may have had a bad experience that just doesnt make it so for everybody…its like you have moved on you attend another church which is everything YOU need biblicaly, spiritually and worship wise so is that not enough? I know we agree at least we wont change the minds of others everyone feels the way they feel but that does not mean not to congradulate or be happy for another mans relationship with God whether you agree with where they get it from or not…Let me ask you this, is it that you have totally closed your mind to the possibility that things could not be as though you say they were? are you unable to just agree to disagree or will you always have to try to inject some sort of doubt into the people who have had good experiences? i would just say to you out of love man let it go, i could be wrong i dont think i am whether you say so or not but just let it go because honostly you are harbering some very hard feelings….a. God Uses All Things to Fulfill His Purposes and Even Uses Evil for His Glory and for Our Good: God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose” (Rom. 8:28 NASB).

Wow Bombshell!! you are a preacher?? wow!! i guess in my mind a man or woman of God would choose to Pray for or uplift others in troubling times as well as good….I just pray that since you are called to preach that you do practice what you preach, it is certainly on my heart to tell you to Forgive. and i dont know you from adam you could walk up and smack a stranger and i wouldnt know it was you nor would you know it was me but im telling you it is soooo on my heart to give you that one word Forgive. O.K. Why is the Dead Sea called the Dead Sea?

I’m told it is so salty because all the water goes into the Dead Sea but nothing comes out the other end. The Dead Sea doesn’t give anything back, it only takes.
God gives forgiveness and invites us to be a people of forgiveness. When we do not give back forgiveness as we have received forgiveness, then we die, at least a little, at least inside where God is trying to make us alive in his love.
God, You are the Forgiver of the faithful and the foolish. We are amazed at Your mercy and forgiveness as expressed in Jesus Christ. Let us live this day as those who have been forgiven and given the opportunity to forgive others!

No, sister, it’s not the lack of forgiveness more than the portrayal of facts. It’s hard to see that in written text.
Love is not always turning a cheek, even in the bible. Sometimes love is telling a person their wrong and that what was built was with the wrong motives.
I have forgiven and I have moved on, but it don’t change the events, and that’s all they are are events of the past. The reasons why I don’t support the church are factual, but not written out of hate, it’s reaching not hating.
The bible talks of a time when men will forget to blush at the wrong-doing of the men of God. The fact that I blush at don’t mean I hate.

I understand and im not saying you are hating, you know what it is to have something placed on your heart, you have to say it..so it really didnt have all to do with the situation we are usually talking about i dont think. its just a feeling i got…im still learning i just recently been in tune with hearing God’s voice, its like i have alway heard but did not know but after a sermon we had whats up with me? about finding out what God has called you to do, we discussed the different ways we hear from God and i can remember sooo far back but just ignorant to what was really going on often time calling it womans intuition??lol. im not trying to be someone who knows the bible backward and forward i am contiuously learning in church, with friends, on my own and yes more than you know a lot from you and some others on these blogs it is causing me to have to look up scriptures you are posting, and also find scriptures for my self that support what i say, feel or think so i truly am feeling blessed behind this because where i have been a lil relaxed on reading my bible be it because of work school or just lazy i have been in it a whole lot for the last 3 weeks.lol! so as i said i dont know if that msg to forgive was in fact for that or something else it is what it is hey maybe its meant for you to give to someone i dont know but i thank you for not gettin upset with me like i said we have been havin a pretty cool open dialgue umongst us, u feel me…stay up! i mean why do we have to type in banana???lol!! 🙂

Yeah, it’s cool, but I’ll stop posting. It seems like what I posted un-nerved some people and that was not my intention. I have no ill-will towards the Word church and to be honest I don’t even know if I’d be preaching or studying if these events didn’t happen. God’s hand is at work in everything, and I do mean everything. Those events really opened my spirit to make changes and to get serious with God.
I get the feeling that people are more like “I hope that this is a lie” or “I hope that he would just shut up and this will all go away” and to me it seems like it bothered people. Like I posted before it’s really not about where you attend, it’s about is it in you to serve Christ wherever you are. If you go to another church and it changes you, then that’s fine, as long as the change is in you and not just around you.
Enjoy school and enjoy your relationship with Christ. I feel that the spiritual revival that is happening in this city is just beginning.

This is what it boils down to. I don’t care if this pastor is rich or poor, he has to answer to the same God we all do someday. That is besides the point. First word “PASTOR” I was watching MTV, yes I said it MTV. I saw a “pastor and his daughter” on Sweet 16. I said to myself what has this world come too.
She is a typical teen that’s true, a perfect one she’s not, but she has to show an example for other teens her age. What happened to role models. I blame her parents for allowing such nonsense. Daddy’s Jet, three motorcycles which is truly ridiculous. I remember reading in another blog where someone called this man annointed and humble? Please look up the word humble. And that they would let their daughter do the same thing. If the pastor is doing it and he’s annointed that means I can do the same thing too, right? Read your bibles people. Please stop following these preachers/pastors/ministers etc. and making their pockets fat and follow your Savior. They cannot get you into the kingdom of heaven. That my friend you have to do on your own. Another thing is, the church is not a pyramid scam. You cannot give the minister $1000 and expect to receive $10,000 in return. That comes from one man and one man only. Yes, it’s true you should pay tithes but not all the time to a church. Why don’t you give to your neighborhood or the “TRUE NEEDY” so you can see where your money is going. There are too many scriptures that I can list that what I have watched and what his “followers” claim him to be I beg to differ. I’ve also read he has a bowling alley, barbershop etc. So his money comes from “good business practices”. I have to tell all of you Real Christians, not Carnal the truth. Have you ever seen an infomercial? They sell you a product that can make you a millionaire and claim to be millionaires themselves by using the same product. Yes, they are millionaires, but not by “USING” their products, but by selling them to you to make money! Get my drift. Please read your bibles thoroughly and really understand the true meaning of what the Lord “Really” wants you to know and follow. Pray for wisdom and knowledge. Pray for yourself as well as others. and you too will learn that no matter what you say there are others that feel the way we feel, and honostly its ok..You said it best Pastor Vernon has to answer to the same God as all of us so if indeed there is some wrong doing, none of our opinion will change how God will handle things…I just so happen not to feel the way you feel, i do see where my money is going..we dont have a bowling ally he doesnt have a jet, its a stupid propeller twin enjine plane that he charters ot get to where he needs to be to get back in time and tend to his family, we have a skating rink basketball, pool tables restruant, and other things but whats wrong with providing a safe place for kids to enjoy them selves there is also a computer lab available to them and when many men could be in the street doing lord knows what, cheating for example after haveing a spat with there wife, i dont know if i were married id much rather my husband to be there shootin some hoops instead of some bar or club..the church gives plenty to the whole commuity we have a food pantry you can get clothes for free, and they are all brand new, there is a safe haven for women in or coming out of abusive relationships what is wrong with any of this?? its like we are all at a museum looking at the same painting an abstract painting although its the same painting we all see something different and that is life i guess, but wow….thats all i can say everytime someone wants to say what the church should or could be doing they have no idea its already being done on a continuous basis…i think i said before for everything someone has to say negative there is atleast 2 positives but i guess thats when if you go there then it matters if you dont thats all you will see the negativity which is mostly assumption, or as a result of what someone else has said…dont think im upset im just stating my opinion as did you..and i wanted to also thank you for praying for me as you said you must do imediately thats sum real love to pray for even strangers…thats what its all about praying for each other..and our pastor you cant leave him out.. much love!

But, do you see how first impressions are the worse, just as well are judgements. It is good to know that something is being givened back to the community. I would have never thought that a man of God, who is human by the way, would allow such poor judgement. I take it he has never seen the show before and was honestly duped by his daughter or someone else. I partially agree with you in some areas. I have a question to ask all of us including myself. If we think that one episode of a preachers daughter is so apalling, why do we watch MTV in the first place? We sometimes have a warped mindset. It’s o.k for non-christians to participate in such mess, but we expect highly of our fellow christians. That is true for we should set an example, and pray for others to be saved.
And about praying for you, I mean that whole heartedly without sarcasm. We as Christians have a duty to stick together and teach the unsaved victims. I call them victims because satan is wicked and has his hands on our community, children, family, friends and even our faith. 100% i dont disagree with anything you said thank you very much for keeping an open mind for my response to you, because a lot of time i still get it! lol. But im not here only because im a member of the word and i want to defend him to the end, it is not the case I love God first above all, and this is something Pastor preaches, but getting away from that to make my point…The enemy never sleeps and he will come in at any weakend moment, what i see here is a lot of people at odds thats why i changed the way i approached this blog i kind of like it here because it really really goes so well with a couple of my classes but in many of the msgs i can pull some good from even if i dont agree with what is being said..thats how we should look at life, and even about the show, firs this all started because of the party but look you hardly see anyone talkin about it it is those tryin to prove he’s not biblical and stealing the money and those who feel he is biblical and using the money for good….what does that even have to do with that childs party..i got out of it this at the end of the day we all have gotten jazzy with our parents, i have a 14 and 16 yr old as of yesterday woo!!16 had a moment there, but i raise them well and they get flip at the lip she is no different..I think pastor was some what ignorant to what the show was about but i honostly think he thought he could put a different spin on the whole thing but didnt quite happen that way thanks to reality tv and editing not making excuses but he will be the first to tell you he did it because thats his baby, but maybe he did make a mistake…he took one sunday to address it and we have moved on..you feel me? and lastly, yes im sure that other families on there are christians, but they they just happen to be car dealers, lawyers or what ever funny we dont hold them to the same standards the show shouldnt exist but you know where the ratings are at…Eazy E’s daughter was on there and OMG!! she made all of them look a lil better, well maybe not all but as a lil black girl, man it was bad.lol i wanted to give her a lashing!! lol..thanks again….as so famously said Devil is a liar Christians doin big things and there are sooo many more souls to come! im excited to learn more and more…

Pastors should be accountable to a spiritual authority who can assist, support, encourage, strengthen, rebuke, and speak into their lives. Does Pastor Vernon have such a person to whom he must give an account besides God? The temptation to sin in the areas of money, sexual purity, and pride are great, especially if you are a law unto yourself. My husband is a senior-pastor. He has submitted himself to a hierarchial leadership in our denomination. I hope yours does, too. If he does not, the membership needs to pray that he will.

Hi Anita, i would just like to say that The Word Church is a great church despite what many say…I stayed away for a little while listening to what people were saying but one day i heard somone talking and it reminded me of the first very large church in my home town 20 something years ago so in my mind, now how can two different churches have the exact same thing said about them but have absolutely nothing to do with each other so i went for my self and it was wonderful, i fell in love before the pastor even hit the stage….i cant explain the feeling but the moment i walked into the sanctuary i was overcome with emotion i just began to sob out of nowhere and i couldnt control it, and this was befor anything singing and all. I knew in my heart this would be my new home, for me the choir and the praise team are rollin with the greats and pastor is young fresh and new but a bonus for me do you feel me? I had never been to a church where i could tell you the spirit was thick today!!! hey but thats me i think we all are placed into the church God wants us to be in and that may be just my opinion but i do believe that…and im not gonna act like i totally understand your terminology hierarchial leadership?? I think I know what that means but I know he is under Bishop Joey Johnson at the House of The Lord in Akron, and he has stated that his integrity means everything to him and if he did do something, im not quoating at this point because i cant remeber the exact words but he would be dealt with accordingly, and to me he is very humble…to me like any man should be or woman who is successful he is proud but he is never throwing it out like look at me look at me i got this and you dont..he teaches and preaches very well about the walk we need to take to acquire all blessings not just money and things…a lot of people say he isnt biblical there isnt a sunday that goes by where the first word is turn your bible to…..this is a bible church if you dont have a bible shame on you, no just playin look at your neighbors we cool like that at the Word Church…I have learned in just hearing things people say that a majority of the people either were around 8 yrs ago and they chose to go along with the other church, they dont think he could have grown from whatever he did or did not do, or they never been there at all..I know as a teen whenever people talked bad about me it was never the people who knew me it was always a person who simply knew my name, nothing more but baby!!! the stories they would tell..lol. I think Pastor Vernon is very young and at 36 he has a long way to go before he will be excepted based on that alone, but i havent been around but 3 yrs and i have seen a growth in him as a leader so i know he has had to make a significant change from that 28 or 9 yr old that they locked out.. Im 35 and im a mother of 2 teenagers honey that job never ends and we never stop learning so i’d imagine that raising teens is just as tough for pastors as it is us because when its all said and done that teen will become an adult with his or her own mind and no matter who mommy or daddy is they are gonna be who they choose to be we hope and pray we have done a great job but what more can we do after we give them the tools?? heck there are children that grow up in some mess and turn out to be even better than their parents….So Sweet 16 wasnt a good thing we all know this but its done, and the thing is we at the church know what he was trying to do and thats where the lack of knowlege came in i even thought it would go as planned but it didnt, im happy she got to enjoy her self as did many other kids in the city who may not ever have gotten to go to such a huge party which i still feel was so corny at least in comparing them to the others.lol.but i do pray for the church and the pastor because thats what we are suppose to do even in bad times…i truly thank God for this church..and i tell you what i have never seen so many hood, thugged out, white t wearin street corner lookin brothers cry and give their lives to christ….many women too but the brothas you know they suppose to be the leaders of their homes and fathers to their children not out here jupin woman to woman makin baby after baby slangin rocks or engagin in immoral activities it is an emotional thing for me to see this happen of course salvation is not in numbers but when the church has thousands of members in most services the numbersa are high, and we all know Pastor Vernon can only deliver God’s msg in no way can he save anyone thats all God….so even when you dont mean to we know that feeling when God want you he will get you…lol be in church alter call next thing you know you at the front feelin like how did i get here???? We need to also look at the way the early Christians lived in the early church. After the death of Jesus, PROVISION CAME IN A DIFFERENT WAY. Their giving exceeded that of a tithe. The eternal principles of sacrificial offerings remained. The book of Acts shows that even though people DID NOT TITHE, the ministers needs were met, the members needs were met, and abundant resources were dispersed to the disadvantaged.

In Response to Bishop Gray; you are correct about tithing not being mentioned in the new testament. In the New Testament it says to give all:
Scripture References: 1 Cor 16:1-2; 2 Cor 9:7; Galatians 3:10 (Study the scriptures and please quote them correctly.) I will not add to the scritpure because I want God to impart his meaning into your heart.
As for Vernon daughter MTV party that happen months ago: Who would not give their daughter the world? And
As for Pastor Vernon not preaching the word or not being an humble man or a man who cares for riches. I know not of these things but one thing I do know. If the Word CHurch has a blemish or is tainted or lacks integrity then God will judge but before God judges I will pray that God corrects every error, every mistake, every misspoken word, every teaching that is not from him.
But Word Church keep giving to the community, keep donating food, keep giving away clothing, keep your teens off the streets, and keep making sure they have the proper books when they school. Do not close the GED program abd keep the computer center open.

The word for touch in Hebrew is naga. It means to strike, beat or bring down violently. It doesnâ€™t mean not to criticize doctrine or to publicly examine anotherâ€™s teachings.

We are all still human. Also, building jobs, businessess, and opportunities for the jobless is a great thing. The basketball arena and skating arena I thought would be a blessing for many people… If he used the money the church raised (tithes and offering), he have to still pay taxes, expenses, and etc right?? The church goers still need a place to worship right? Did the church get closed down or did the Arena not offer jobs for those who are jobless? I don’t see many other celebrities or rappers giving opportunities to anyone in my hood? They continue to rap about themselves and make big $$$ and drive big cars!
Let’s get them to pay their tithes or read the word of God! Let’s go get them! Especially R Kelly! We will let God get RA Venon, Pastor Paula White, and Eddie Long etc or whoever is doing something wrong in his sight!

I understand what you say and from a human perspective it’s right. But when you get to a Church you’ve already got a standard against which to live and that’s the bible. What people are saying is that biblically it’s wrong.
Vernon is a carnal preacher, preaching a carnal message to wordly christians. In other words, the message he preaches are from his own personal view and not the bible’s. It appeals because we see things in a wordly light, and that only changes through the Holy Spirit. How else can you explain a preacher who goes on to two talk shows one in the morning and one in the afternoon and outright lie, and even his own members state that he lied but yet no one has a problem with it?
If it was someone else’s pastor who did it, I’d bet you’d have a problem with it.

well to begin with jackie these men and women who ask for tithes claim that they are collecting the money for God, thats a lie from the pits of hell. God never authorized anyone to pay tithes but the children of Israel and he never authorized anybody to receieve tithes but the tribe of Levi.you see in the real church the church that god establised there is no clergy and there is no laity this was started by the catholic church with the preist being the clergy and the rest of the people being the laity or just spectators.this then spillled over into the protastant church with the pastor replacing the preist. setting themselves up to be clergy and the rest of the people laity. If the bible says that we are all preist today then we owe no man nothing but God.these demons are only allowed to opperate because they are agents of satan and most of the body dont know their authority in God. PREIST did not pay tithes to preist then so why should preist pay tithes to preist now.just because a man opens up a building and calls it a church does not give him authority to lie on God to get peoples money. ask yourself this question who does your pastor pay tithes to is he exempt from paying tithes because he says he is the pastor. they say its Gods money to decieve people to give because if they say the money is for them people wont give.these men and women who take tithes in the name of God are in fact theives and robbers including vernon.what the world does with their money is their business but when the people of God are being bamboozled with the same word that is suppose to set them free then it becomes my business to expose false doctrine.

I must agree with Bishop Gray,
I find it extremely saddening that many of the people who are running to the defense of Pastor Vernon are clearly uninformed about the true Living God and his will for all mankind, net alone the Word of God. People can say what they want in an attempt to lesson the blow of Pastor Vernon lapse in judgement, however the fact will still remain the same at the end of a 24 hour day. That FACT being his motives, integrity, and most of all his character is in question.
For all the members who flock to Pastor Vernons haven in realizing we all have to start someone pray that God reveals in you truth. Many of the members of the Word are young, WOMEN, drug dealers( or ex-drug dealers) new to Christianity, and lost. In order to know God you must first seek him out for yourself. Don’t just settle because this is the first building you’ve visited and it feels familiar. The devil has away of making you feel as comfortable as possible using the form of man. Surrounding you with things that are familiar to you…say in the way the WORD is delievered by way of man.
As far as all the wonderful works he is “doing in the community” please show me. I really don’t see it at all. Or is it territorial works that he’s doing. I have no recollection of these marvelous works he has done in the community (as you all so eloquently put it) until he was called out about the Sweet 16 episode, in fairness I heard of one thing that he was doing and lets just say he was referring to himself as the women at the Words “Daddy”. Sounds like a PIMP to me….
In closing I would like to say that I have a scooter just like Chanae’s I paid $6440.00 for the one I have. I couldn’t agree with you more prophetessgoldie, and Anonymous (March 8, 2008) Pastor Vernon has a lot to deal with, within himself…I stumbled upon his morning inspiration show while flicking the channels and noticed where he made mention of the trips he makes to the prison, and how he looses money on those trips but their are “souls to be saved” so he does what needs to be done.
Bottom line is money shouldn’t even be an issue if your a TRUE…. (wait let me repeat that)a TRUE man of God. See what so many of his followers lack is self knowledge. You have to be able to know God on a personal level aside from what is being taught to you on Sunday morning, or “bible study”. I learned the hard way about following the word through the mouth of a Pastor alone. During that time I was younger, easily influenced and very Naive.
You couldn’t tell me that my Pastor wasn’t bringing the word every single time I sat in his presence!!!! Just like many of the followers of the Word, there wasn’t nothing you could tell me or any other follower of this particular Pastor. It wasn’t until I started getting to know God on my own, that the REAL was REVEALED! This Pastor was doing all kinds of dirt, he was mixing up the scriptures to fit his agenda, he was using tons of street slang (like I mentioned in my other blog to make it more comfortable for those still in the world straddling the fence if you will), he was flirting with disaster and it didn’t occur to me until I found Christ for myself, what he was doing.
I was blinded by the HUGE congregation, TV’s in the back of the church, packed parking lot on Sundays, HUGE choir, popularity attached to the church, and saying what church I belonged to and what wonderful things “My Pastor” was doing until one lovely Saturday when God planted a seed of decernment in me, which showed me just what a “WONDERFUL” Pastor I truly had. Yeah right he was dirty as Pastor Vernon and let me show you how I figured him out. I asked him to not take tithes and offering for 1 month and he refused. LOL I figured a month was a bit extreme so I lowered it to 3 weeks he still didn’t take me up. So I stopped attending his church.
Wake up people of the Word everything that glitters ain’t gold. You think I’m lieing ask your Pastor not to take up tithes/offerings for one month and see if he’ll do it. If it’s not about the money see if he’ll do it. Not just the Word members any church for that matter. Put your Pastor to a test and see where his heart really is. Because a true Pastor knows that GOD will supply their/your needs, so regardless of what his finances are if he has FAITH and BELIEVE in the true WORD OF GOD he’ll do it. If he doesn’t then you have your answer as to where your pastor’s heart really lays.

How come when you pay your tithes and offerings you still have to go to catholic charities to get your rent paid and your utilies paid when you get behind? Ask me how I know.

How do you know 1wasblind? I bet you it was because of a situation you/someone you know was in and didn’t get help from the “church” you faithfully attended every week and tithed too faithfully…but got it from a catholic charitie. Is that how? Because I would like to know?

That is exaclty right it happened to me and some of my friends , but I quess the difference between me and them is that I woke up and I learned how to help myself and when I get in a bind I go to my secret place, my closet and get me a couple of hundred, because I stop giving it all away.
In addition to that, I stop letting them bind me up with Malachi 3:8 because I started to study the word of God for myself. I still don’t know everything, but I am not going to fall for anything.

Good for you 1wasblind. There are so many left who need the strength, wisdom, and faith to leave these fake churches, run by these fake pastors. Your right about the money end too. I give to charities like the City Mission and places like that…at least I can see consistent giving in those organizations instead of it being only when trouble comes knocking. Im not a member of “The Word” church, however I did attend a sponsered event held this Sat at the mutiplex cent behind the church. Although, Im not a member I was looking for a good church for myself and my children, HOWEVER, admist the rumors, I want to know is it true that before you can become a member you have to bring in W2’s so that your tithe money can be calculeted? Please tell me that isnt so, as I have always thought that you should worship Christ as you are, rich, poor, etc… If thats the case thats crazy, then I will find a church with unconditionally welcome, not how much money you make

This is a church, a non-profit. Haven’t you been reading the Senate Investigations? You have Churches where the Pastor makes more than the head of the Nation’s largest Non-Profit, the Red Cross.
How do you justify this? If this were the Red Cross, you’d be up in arms and the it’s President would be in jail.
He shouldn’t of had the money to spend in the first place if it was indeed church money. And don’t give me that “He has his own money”, everybody knows that his businesses started with church money. Just like the place you worship in, he owns it, paid for it with church money and then has the nerve to charge you rent. Again, if this was not a church, then you’d be appauled.

I just watched the MTV sweet 16 and I am astonished. If I were a member of this church I would be livid. How does it feel to know that your money went to purchase this lavish wasteful party. I don’t believe that a preacher should have to be poor but these people are living like multi millionaires. My family is a typical middleclass family and if we were to spend 1000.00 on a childs party that would be too much. People pay tithes for the church not to spoil a child rotten… How can they justify this? Three scooters a 25,000 party???? I think that this man is a swindler and all of you have been duped. Very sad that his congregation is so brainwashed that they can’t even see this.

Firstly, I have heard RA VErnon speak and the doctrine is sound. More churches and pastors need to do what he and the church are doing for their community.
2ndly not sure what happened re the sweet 16 party, I would call it poor judgement on his part. But you know what, I am a parent and as parents we want so badly to give our children the best. In doing so, we at times go overboard and spoil them. Hopefully, he and his wife will wake up, if necessary (this is only one incident) and make a better judgement next time. Listen if I had the $ to do so I’d probably do the same thing;
3rdly; The church is nonprofit, but he declares on his website that he has “for profit” businesses, such as daycare and a few others.
Truly, R.A.Vernon has flaws just like everyone of us posting comments; but when I weigh the good he is doing versus the bad. The good far outweighs the good.
