Former Solon Mayor Bob Paulson’s Op-ed to Cleveland.com — “Don’t beat up Chagrin Falls for protecting its quaint business district. Some Cleveland shop owners probably wish they’d done the same” — ends with this sentence: “That is not fair to a tiny village like Chagrin Falls.”

With all do respect to your work in public service and what you have given to your community, this opinion confused me.

This comes off as a defensive piece placing Chagrin Falls as the victim and is yet another distraction from the actual issue our society faces. Chagrin Falls is a nice place, a slice of Americana, a utopia, if you will.

It doesn’t really matter if they are light blue, purple, pink, or fuchsia. Amy Cooper showed us this in Central Park, NY two weeks ago. Fear of the African American community exists, and white isolation is the response to that fear.

Communities like Chagrin Falls, Medina, Avon (who also experienced peaceful protests) are the part of America that offers the most opportunity for changing this underlying fear. I do not condone violence or rioting in any way, but I understand the anger. I am a frequent shopper at Heinens, Geiger’s and a diner at Yours Truly, and I am sorry for their damage. These businesses will hopefully get back to normal eventually, with help from insurers and the community rallying behind them to restore their margins.

It is absolutely incumbent upon white folks like me and Bob Paulson to ensure that this momentum towards making the actual change does not get back to normal, which would be a return to a state of complacency and status quo.

That is why I took the time to respond to this Op-ed. Mr. Paulson, Solon is a nice community and has doubled its African American demographic since you have been mayor. I would recommend sitting down with some of these families and getting an understanding of what it is like to raise a black family in 2020. At this point we can have a better sense of what isn’t fair, and for who.

  1. Dan the business man, no one knows which of these endless protest events are going to turn into a vandalism party. Being cautious is not racist or hysteric. Boasting about the amount of people decended from Africans that are living in your community is condescending and racist.

Anyways its been made clear these protests for the magical Mr. Floyd (who’s 6’6″ frame fits in a 5′ golden box) were orchestrated to advance the agenda of the radical left.

  2. Trust but board up.

BTW, 18 murders in Chicago in ONE DAY yesterday. No word yet of any protests over those. Guess they don’t matter.

  3. Dan should have invited the young lads in to have a run of his old lady. These “Allies” that attempt to shame their neighbors into letting the trojan horse in are always masochistic cucks.

No bigger threat in this Country than guilt ridden whites. I don’t care what you apologize for, but if you try to speak for me you’re gonna wind up with a boot in your ass. I owe no one anything.

  4. So noting Leila Atassi’s city of residence – easily found on her public Facebook – gets a comment deleted? She wrote about Chagrin Falls like it was a foreign land with which she was not familiar – when she pretty much lives in a west side Chagrin Falls herself. Hypocrite.

Daniel Carcioppolo, just what changes do you want to see happen?

There are already anti-racial discrimination laws.
For instance, 42 U.S.C. Section 1983 allows an individual to file a civil lawsuit against a government official, like a police officer, who deprives him or her of a civil right guaranteed by federal law or the U.S. Constitution. These civil rights include the right not to be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law and the right to equal protection of the law.

So what changes do you want?

Is it to boot out the Democratic mayors of Minneapolis, Atlanta, Cleveland, Los Angeles, New York City, and other U.S. cites where widespread protests are being conducted, because of how local police departments are operating?

If so, why not just vote these Democratic politicians out of office when they run for reelection?

It is irrational to think that excessive use of force by police officers can be eliminated entirely.
Excessive use of force is already against local police departments’ work rules, policies, and procedures, and it is foreseeable that in the struggle to control criminal suspects that excessive force will sometimes occur.
Police officers also have a constitutional right to due process, and collective bargaining agreements grant them the contractual right to not be disciplined without just cause. Even if they are disciplined, they have the right to an employee grievance process, which permits an arbitrator to remove or reduce any disciplinary action imposed on the grievant.

So do you want police officers to be deprived of their contractual right to just cause before disciplinary action is imposed upon them and their right to collectively bargain?

Your comments imply that you want a lot of changes made that you want other whites to support.

Just what exactly are the changes that you want to see occur?

  6. Leila Atassi is another in the long line of hypocrites in Cleveland Media.

For these disgusting human beings to cast a shadow on “whiteness” while they remain living peacefully in their untouched burbs or gentrified neighborhoods simply proves their claims to be bullshit.

If “racism” was as rampant and widespread as they claim, they’d have been strung up in their front yards years ago.

Just like Antifa, they’re LARPers that have themselves convinced that they’re making a difference while their neighbors pray they become the next victims of the violent home invasions they ignore in their sanctimonious testimonies.

  7. Puddle: Who the fuck is attempting to threaten whom? What neighborhood are YOU promiosingto “defend” with your white threats of viglante bullshit? You had better pray that what you fantisize does not come to pass, because the looting and destruction of May 30 will be nothing compared to the firestorm that will engulf this city, and the number of dead will far surpass what the Plague has brought us.

Keep on talking and thinking that line of white power crap and the civil war you seem to be looking for will destroy everything you care about. You’d better have something besides bravado and bluster to back up your threats. Big talk from another right-wing keyboard warrior.

The events of the past two weeks have turned the clock back fifty years in this city and this country, and it is a ticking clock attached to a time bomb.

You’ve drunk the red Kool-Aid and you want to go to war against a bogeyman called Antifa that doesn’t truly exist, but you also appear to be looking for a race war, a culture war, and a civil war. And the chances are getting stronger every day that you’ll get your wish.

Ask yourself this: Are you and your neighbors feeling threatened enough that you’re prepared to die? If you go to far, you’d better be.

  8. Hater, there are Facebook accounts for the local antifa groups you dumbass. Every city has them now. Every rally has these little dudes covered head to toe in black. Don’t be obtuse.

  9. I don’t do Facebook…have no use for it…so fuck you very much. And I don’t go to rallies because I’m too old to run fast anymore. And you can accuse me of being in anything you like, but you’re still a trolling motherfucker who has made this place his whole goddamned life.

As for Antifa…you don’t have to “belong” to any outfit to be an anti-fascist. Antifa means anti-fascist. Eisenhower and Patton and FDR were anti-fascist. So if you’re anti-antifa, that means you’re pro-fascist. And if you’re pro-fascist, then you’re a fascist. So you can just kiss my wrinkled old pinko ass.

  10. “So if you’re anti-antifa, that means you’re pro-fascist.”

Thats as stupid as saying if you are pro white you ‘must’ be anti black or the converse.

Antifa is an anti government group. I really dont thing Patton and FDR were anti movement jackhole.

Stop saying dumb things please. Just stop.

  11. “Antifa is an anti government group. I really don’t think Patton and FDR were anti government ‘

And just because I cant spell at 4 in the morning, that doesn’t mean you’re any less a dumb shit.

“If you’re anti democrat you must be a republican!” – No I’m a libertarian.
“If you’re anti browns you must be a steelers fan!” – No I don’t watch the NFL (Go Bucks!)

    Get the picture doorknob?
Only in the heads of people such as yourself, with very limited capacity for thought, is everything black and white.

  12. I saw @blm_216 tweet a screenshot of the locals Facebook page with posts about snipers. Too bad no follow up.

  13. Jussie Smollett had to make up hate crimes and pay people to carry them out. It was bullshit just like 99.5% of all other “hates crimes” staged by Leftists to demonize Trump Supporters.

Yet the Left continues with their Subversive that White Supremacists are everywhere and Antifa doesn’t exist.

Well, truth be to told Antifa won’t exist when we’re done with ’em.

  14. What protesters don’t seem to get is that the death of George Floyd had do far more with the desire of police officers wanting to control and maintain control over him than it did with any other reason.
The police officers displayed no intent to want to use excessive force on George Floyd until he resisted being placed in the back of a police car while claiming that he was claustrophobic.
Had George Floyd not passed a counterfeit $20 bill to buy cigarettes to feed his nicotine addiction, his death would not have occurred.
Had George Floyd just complied with police instructions to get in the back of a police car, after he was arrested, his death would not have occurred.
Had George Floyd not illegally used meth and fentanyl, his death may not have occurred.
What the police officers are guilty of is not intending to kill George Floyd, but rather showing wanton indifference to his safety in large part because the police officers were unaware that his blood vessels were constricted due to previously and illegally using meth and fentanyl and also because he had contracted Covid-19.
Collectively wanting to punish all police officers across America, because of what one particular indifferent police training officer did is as unfair and unreasonable as punishing innocent business owners by vandalizing, looting, and setting fire to their businesses.
The reason why is the vast majority of police officers across America, like innocent business owners who had their businesses damaged or destroyed by violent protesters, had nothing to do whatsoever with what happened to George Floyd. Yet, this fact didn’t keep some violent protesters from murdering innocent police officers and victimizing countless of innocent business owners.
If you believe in the Golden Rule– that is, to treat others as you would have them treat you, you should also want innocent police officers and innocent business owners to be treated as you would want to be treated if you were in their shoes.

  15. Don’t you see, these millennial protesters will not stop destroying our cities until every community resembles that of the entire city of East Cleveland!!!

  16. Imagine basing your entire individual identity on the color of your skin, your sexual orientation, your gender or your religion.

Then imagine how easily you could be manipulated by people that control information.

  17. the people telling you antifa doesn’t exist are the same ones telling you that communities will be safer without police.

  18. The same people that think antifa has anything to do with any of this, are the same people who dont actually interact with people.

  19. The same people saying Antifa doesn’t exist are the ones interacting with Antifa on Twitter.

    Scene + SEIU = Antifa

    It’s precisely that simple

  20. Show some respect – everyone is entitled to an opinion even if it lack facts. What is important is the fact, Chagrin Falls is not a victim nor is it trying to spare itself any true destruction ( to businesses). Also what is true is Chagrin Falls has victimized the Black residents of Chagrin Falls Park for decades by excluding them from their all white schools, drowning some of them in the Chagrin River (tell the truth shame the devil), and by intimidating them by silencing their voices and concerns. We must remember as the Hollies sang, “He ain’t heavy he’s my brother” until all human beings come to understand our connection to each other there will never be justice nor peace. It’s Time!!
