Today’s entry in “Not quite local, but certainly regional and outrageous”:
A Sandusky man driving with his children on Sunday crashed his pickup truck into a ditch, the Sandusky Register reports, and, as though that weren’t already horrendous enough, he was found to have a .505 blood alcohol level.
Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth told the paper that he’d never seen a higher BAC reading.
David Sizemore, 39, pleaded not guilty to charges of one count of driving while intoxicated, two counts of child endangering, and one count each of: failure to control, driving outside of marked lanes and failure to use a safety restraint on a child. “Not guilty.” Sheesh.
Here’s the crux of the police narrative:
Deputies arrived at the scene and found Sizemore barely able to stand up or communicate. There was a mason jar of moonshine, about 2/3 of which was empty, inside the vehicle, [Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin] Smith said.
Sizemore soon became unresponsive and Smith called for a medical squad, concerned about alcohol poisoning.
No one was hurt in the incident. Authorities said that Sizemore’s crash into the ditch likely saved him and his children from a more disastrous crash into, say, another vehicle or a telephone pole.
Around the world, a handful of readings have clocked in at over 1.00, which is insane, and Wikipedia has dutifully collected those tales.

Really? You needed to editorialize in this story? As if the facts weren’t horrible enough, you had to tell us that you thought this guy was horrible for pleading not guilty? Thanks for that.
Really?
