Bill Squire, local comedian and co-host of the Alan Cox show on WMMS, was arrested in Mansfield on October 16 for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

The incident happened at the Ohio State Reformatory, the shuttered prison most famous for its starring role in the Shawshank Redemption. This time of year, the prison becomes a Halloween destination, hosting ghost tours and events like the haunted lockdown.

A spokesperson for the Mansfield police department said Squire was waiting in line at the reformatory and acting drunk and disorderly. He was arguing with employees and shouting profanities. When cops came to try and escort him away, he was “effing them.” He resisted officers as they tried to calm him down and they pepper sprayed him. 

Reached for comment this morning, Squire told Scene, “I’m taking it very serious and will do what I have to do to make it right.”

Previously, former Alan Cox co-host Chad Zumock was fired from the show after an OVI arrest in 2012.

  2. That’s not at all how it went down. That police force is a joke and should be embarrassed with how they conducted themselves especially in the current social climate.

    Most of us can decide for ourselves if we never talk about our drunken experiences or if we post them on social media.

    All I know is that 99.9% of the time Bill is a great dad, a great friend, and someone who has gone out of his way to help out local comics start their careers. He does a crazy amount of charity work and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS has time to stop and talk to anyone who needs to talk. I’ve never had a text or message or call go unanswered by Bill even if it was just me bitching about life.

    So this was a .0001% Bill was something other than classy.

    Sure, let’s crucify him because I’m sure no one else in the history of the world has ever had too much too drink and dropped an eff bomb in public.

    Because everyone’s family, friends, and colleagues should always abandon everyone for one bad night. One belligerent act in public ALWAYS cancels out an entire life times worth of love and kindness.
