Anthony Sowell was found guilty today by a jury for aggravated murder and a host of other charges stemming from the deaths of eleven women at his Imperial Avenue house. It took 15 hours for the jury to come to a decision.
This really is just the beginning, however. As the PD reminds us, Sowell faces the death penalty and the mitigation phase of this circus begins soon. Sowell’s lawyers will obviously argue he should not be killed.
The same jury that came back with this verdict will decide Sowell’s ultimate fate. Judge Ambrose will take their recommendation and decide a sentence, but he cannot condemn Sowell to death unless the jury decides on that punishment.
Eventually, it will be over and some measure of closure can be brought to the families of the victims. Once again, RIP: Telacia Fortson, Diane Turner, Janice Webb, Nancy Cobbs, Tonia Carmichael, Tishana Culver, Leshanda Long, Crystal Dozier, Amelda Hunter, Michelle Mason and Kim Yvette Smith.

I know I’m just venting, but I wish they would wrap a rope around Sowell’s neck and strangle him to death, just like he strangled those poor women. It’s painful to know that he went undetected for such a long time. Still, we only know about 11 murders. No doubt, there were others that will never be uncovered. May those murdered women rest in peace, as well.
what happened to the media coverage of this trial…..11 black women no coverage….no NANCY GRACE. I cant help but wonder, what if they were 11 white women, how much coverage would this trial have gotten.
Cut off his genitals – as should be the verdict for ANY pig who rapes – and let him live without his precious penis – a worse punishment than death for this animal.
yay for this verdict , was a bit worried we had jurors like the one’s in casey anthony trail .
We don’t have to behave like animals. Neither do we need to cut off anyone’s penis. The law provides for the proper punishment of rapists and murderers; and the death penalty is adequate for Sowell’s crimes. The Sowell case could not compete with Casey Anthony’s trial. A black serial killer who is killing black females in an urban area isn’t as newsworthy as a young white woman on trial for killing her 2 year old daughter. Call it what you will, but when it comes to black females, the concern just isn’t there. No doubt, if OJ’s wife had been black, the trial probably wouldn’t have been televised.
I want to keep my thoughts on the victims and their families. Hopefully, this verdict will give them the closure and courage to move on with their lives. They didn’t deserve to die the way they did. I know what I believe, but only God really knows what happened. I find it ironic that Mr. Sowell wants someone to spare his life, when he didn’t give those ladies that choice.
Hang him tomorrow as in July 23rd 2011. Rid the earth of that scum dirt ball.
Regarding the lack of media coverage, please be informed that there has been and there still is a strict gag order in place.
although i am trulythankful for the verdict, my mind keeps telling me there is more to this than we know!! i really believe sowell was not the only person involved in this and why he was not called to testify or any other person on his behalf is a mystery to me, after all his home was used as a crack house by (men) and women!! i don’t think he did all this sh&&@@ alone!! and don’t remember a D#$% thing!! come on lawyers!!! may GOD have mercy on his soul!!! RIP LADIES!! JUSTICE AS WE KNOW IT HAS BEEN DONE!! GOD WHO IS OUR ULTIMATE JUDGE WILL DO THE REST!!!
Hay High Roller, the media cant give those black woman all the recognition that you think they should, REMEMBER they are Prosicuting a black man ! and that would get dragged back to court for unfavorable Persecution, or Discrimination. ( WHY ?)Your guess is as good as anybodys..
as far as the media coverage, I do not think that the victims being black had a thing to do with it. It is a terrible situation but cannot be compared to the Casey Anthony trial because this was a little girl who was murdered by her own mother. No offense, but all 11 of these black women were brought into the situation because they wanted to do drugs. There is no blame to be put on these women because they were unknowingly in the company of a very sick person. let these people rest in peace and for god’s sake quit it already with the racial bullcrap.
The very fact that it was a black man killing black females made it command less media coverage, when-does-it-end. It’s not racial bullcrap, it’s the truth; and if you’re going to live in the real world, you have to be willing to accept the truth. Doesn’t matter if they wanted to do drugs, or not. These 11 women did not have to die, any more than Caylee had to die!
Oh, please, let’s all just get over the Casey Anthony verdict…Nancy Grace gets paid big bucks for her show AND she was hired to do the job that she does/did…Yes, it seemed over the top to hear so much about this trial, but you must remember that Mr. Sowell cannot be compared apples to apples with Ms. Anthony…he killed/raped/whatever as a byproduct of his chosen way of life whereas she was tried and found not guilty. There is no comparison except for the fact that they both were tired and the jury was in harmony with a verdict. Neither of these cases ended in a hung jury or a mistrial, so accept the verdict and get over it…life is too short to dwell on the jury choices that are made every day in this country. If you don’t like jury decisions, then, I suggest you live in another country and complain there. A few comments are okay and even expected to be made in highly unpopular decisions, but let’s not give in to the media anymore and find another topic to comment on. Give it a rest and move along, I did…
Although I’m a God fearing man this dude needs to be taken out behine the tool shed and spared no mercy, but of course it’s not for me to call for his life because I did’nt give it I cant take it. but justice will be rendered in this life or the next, but I do have to agree with HIGH ROLLER’S COMMENT WHERE WAS ALL THE NATIONAL COVERAGE!!! where was Ms. Nancy Grace and where was all the outrage, these eleven women had families who loved them, and regardless of their backround they were human, they went missing and they were special to someone. IT’S ASHAME THAT NATIONALLY THEIR LIVES, THEIR STORIES AND THEIR MEMORIES WERE SWEPT UNDER THE RUG. And these women were no more or less important than little Caylee Anthony, but yet nationally they will never have their lives or stories told.
I am so glad they found him guilty on all counts, we all knew he was guilty, the bodies were found in and around his house, I would like for him to be put to death on one hand, but on the other, sentence him to life in prision because killing him is too easy, he needs to rot in jail, and, he might not make it in jail before the inmates kill him, so either way, he will not survive, Thank you Jesus
I ageee i dont think he did this alone but just knowing and even helping whomever he guilty. should he get the chai of couse why should we keep payi for him to live the families of the 11 victims are tax payes as well and im petty sure they dont wanna pay for him to live in prison any longer.
This monster is not worth the money already spent! Now the long appeal process……He’ll get shelter and food!!He should be dead NOW.
This monster isn’t worth the money already spent! Now the long appeal process! He’ll get food and shelter, another waste of money! He should DIE NOW!!
it’s about time they do something bout this case it took them long enough. the evidence in front of them of course guilty.
The media coverage, the outcome, the trial itself and the crimes have absolutely nothing to do with race. So quit with the hate, you racists. This trial has been on the news every day since the whack job got busted. Personally I wish the appeal was over so we can all move on. As far as him being a monster? hmmm, he doesn’t recall killing anyone, raping anyone, or buring anyone in or around his home as per his arrest interview. If the same logic is applied to the victim and the perp, then because the women were addicts they were sick, anthony sowell was an addict and thus he was sick also. why not the same compassion,
some people are happy drunks some people are mean drunks the common, both are drunks, neither should be doing what they are doing but should one be treated differently?
I think the reason no witnesses were called was because they knew he was guilty and it would give them more time to prepare for the appeal. May God bless them all and show them the path to righteousness.
