As we reported earlier this afternoon, convicted serial killer Anthony Sowell has been sentenced to death for the brutal murders of 11 women at his Imperial Avenue home. Hopefully, the victims’ families can draw some comfort from the way the wheels of justice have turned on this one.

No question about it, the case was the most high profile courtroom event the town has seen in awhile. Now that it’s over, we thought it would be interesting to crowd source what Clevelanders are feeling about the conviction and sentencing. This afternoon we surfed through Twitter for comments related to Sowell. Below, we’ve posted a selection of Tweets. We decided to steer clear of professional media types and stuck to what regular Jacks and Janes are saying about the crime. The comments range from the thoughtful and philosophic to the irreverent and brash. We’re not going to post any handles — the point isn’t to out anyone. Instead, we’re just interested in a random sample of what’s tumbling out of people’s heads and landing online. Read on:

  1. Wheels of justice? Our court systems are a joke. First of all,..everyone new the guy was guilty as sin but he got a trial anyway (how much did it cost the tax payers ? ). Now we get to feed and protect this monster for say,…20 years while the appeal process continues and every avenue is taken through his lawyers. Maybe in 20 years the death penalty will be repealed by law and then we can take care of Sowel forever. Hey,…maybe we should put him up at the Ritz,… Eh?I got an idea,…How bout we build a gallows and hang him in 1 week at public square???!!! Now that would be justice. A new rope is less expensive than housing him for 20 years.

  2. Romans 12:19…..Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

  3. It doesn’t matter what color the 11 victims were. They may have
down on their luck or entrusted their friendship with an unsavory
character like Anthony Sowell, the devil incarnate who should burn
    in hell

  4. Reply for East Tech 97. Yes,..The Lord said vengence is mine. Now,…you want to pay for Sowells upkeep or do we just let him go? One must read between the lines when quoting the bible. Vengence is mine,….the word vengence means one cannot take vengence to heart or have it in his/her heart. What about justice. We have laws in this country. If we never use the death penalty then the bad guys have nothing to stop them from killing the rest of us. Sowell was judged and sentanced to death. So let it be said,…so let it be done.

  5. Dear Victim’s Families and Friends,
