The Natural Resources Defense Council is blowing minds with its latest annual report.
Giving Ohio a bottom-of-the-barrel water quality ranking, the report rips apart the state’s 61 Lake Erie beaches. In essence, there’s enough E. coli bacteria concentrated throughout the shoreline that serious illness and death are legitimate concerns.
Really, the lake is no stranger to terrible press. But gracing Ohio with a “30th out of 30 states” ranking? Come on, lake!
Check out a map of Ohio to get a closer look at particular beaches. Bear in mind, there’s hope for the local shoreline to ascend in the coming years, thanks to the Cleveland Metroparks’ recent acquisition.

Well, this isn’t a surprise…at all. When are we going to get serious about taking care of Lake Erie, something that should be the crown jewel of Ohio?
