Breaking World Records: 7 Times Ohio Topped Guinness' List

The biggest, the baddest and the bravest: Ohioans are known for it all. From quirky collections to seriously dangerous stunts, we currently hold seven Guinness Book of World Records records.

Largest Pumpkin Pie
New Bremen is a hamlet in western Ohio notable for its vast farmland and for baking the world's largest pumpkin pie. The town just shy of 3,000 people came together in 2010 to make its mark. During the New Bremen Pumkinfest, New Bremen Pumpkin Growers pulled together a 20-foot wide pie that weighed close to two tons, engorging thousands. At least no one was arguing over the last piece of pie that day.

Longest Game of Kickball
Playing kickball in high school was hands down the best day of gym a kid could have. It was low on actual exercise and high on that satisfying thwump kicking rubber makes. Parma's Padua Franciscan High School loved it so much it broke this world record in 2011. After 51 hours and 474 innings, the team composed of hundreds of locals called it quits. The final score came in at 431-301.  

Longest Haunted House
Haunted houses are traumatizing enough as it is. Most people spend their time inside making as mad a dash as possible to the exits while being chased by chainsaw-wielding, red-corn-syrup-spewing actors. Canton decided to torture participants further by not only making the most terrifying house possible but also making the longest petrifying trail of all time. The Canton Factory of Terror spooks locals and tourists with its 55,000-square-foot haunted house, snagging the world record in 2014. During Halloween season, patrons have to walk nearly a mile to get through the terror. Video footage of the walkthrough shows grown men crying and dozens of Northeast Ohioans cowering on the floor. So come prepared or don't come at all.  

Oldest Living Conjoined Twins
Imagine seeing the same face every second of every day for the rest of your life. For some, that may be a dream. For others, it's a nightmare. For Ronnie and Donnie Galyon, it's reality. The 63 year olds were born conjoined at the stomach. The men say they're able to live normal lives and look forward to continuing their lives together for years to come. In 2014, they became the oldest pair of conjoined twins still alive.

Largest Troll Collection
We're not talking bridge-dwelling trolls. We're talking about the naked, wide-eyed toys with bejeweled bellybuttons and tufts of high-reaching hair. The doll has come in and out of fashion since the 1950s but for one Alliance woman, they've never gone out of style. Self-appointed troll queen Sherry Groom was rewarded for her whopping 3,000-piece troll collection in 2012 when Guinness stopped by to let her know she's got the world's biggest group of dolls. That's a lot of unblinking eyes in one house.

Largest Meatball
Only seven people in Columbus were responsible for creating the world's largest meatball. The Columbus Italian Club entrusted the group to handle the raw meat and produce the biggest ball of beef the world has ever seen. In 2011, the team shared the orb, weighing 1,110 pounds and spanning four feet. Hopefully they made enough spaghetti to accompany the mound. 

Most People Set on Fire at Once
We're not really sure why anyone would attempt to break this record. But Cleveland's Hot Cards did in 2013, setting 21 locals ablaze for charity. Safely lit using special gels, the group burned for 32 seconds while raising money for the Cleveland Food Bank and Brick by Brick. If you look closely, you may even be able to spot some Scene staff volunteering to burn. Though 21 people is hard to compare to a two-ton pie, it still brings us a lot of pride. Now cue the "Hot in Cleveland" jokes.
