Announcing the event from his Instagram account, Smith told fans and admirers: “I know you all loved @tarajesss , so tomorrow night (Sept. 19, 2019) we will celebrate her life & showcase our love for her at this candlelight vigil.”
Smith was driving with Cordero on I-90 last week, when a tire blew, causing him to veer his Lamborghini off the road and hit a median. He and Cordero then exited the vehicle and were standing on the shoulder when a car struck Cordero and killed her. Police said the woman driving that car appeared to have been drinking. Smith, it was determined at the scene, was not impaired. The crash is still under investigation.
Cordero, who hailed from North Carolina, gave birth to the couple’s daughter earlier this year. Smith chose to play in Monday night’s game following the incident, saying that Cordero would have wanted him to keep going.
The vigil is set to run from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight. It’s unclear from the address what city the vigil is in.
