As Forrest’s story continues to reverberate across Northeast Ohio, the reality of other animals’ plights is becoming more and more publicized.

Herbie, a pit bull, was found abused and neglected on the side of a road in Lorain County last year. He is alive, but still recovering from his former abuse.

A candlelight vigil and support rally will be held from 6:45 – 8 p.m. tonight at Lakeview Park, 1800 W. Erie Ave. in Lorain. Organizers are asking interested people to RSVP via Facebook in order to get a proper headcount.

  1. awe i need to get people together for my wounded blue jay i found in the snow today, that weather really abused him.and for every little thing that is going on in this big huge world.there should be vigil’s for the insects and animals the cats are killing.hold your candles high for these huge aboused animals.

  2. I’m sorry but this is just silly. Yes, abusing animals is wrong. Steps should certainly be taken to prevent these incidents from occurring. But a candlelight vigil? What about the millions of starving and suffering people across the world? Why do we not hold candlelight vigils for them?

  3. Look, I do not condone people abusing animals or anything, but this is a dog, people. Not a human being, a dog. Do these people have a candlelight vigil for rape victims, or people that are murdered? A dog is not more important than a human being, I’m sorry. And if you think otherwise, there is something wrong in your brain.

  4. if someone can treat an animal with such disregard to life they are more than likely able to treat fellow mankind with equal or more disregard and disdain. Pets like children are dependent on these assholes who abuse them, throw their ignorant asses in jail or treat them like they treat their victims…

  5. @Paula – I bet you’re the kind of person, that if a dog and a person were both drowning, you would dive in and save the dog, leaving the person to drown. Just sad, really.

  6. If one of these idiots that thinks a dog is more important than a human was trapped in a burning building with a dog, and the fire department could only save one of them before the fire engulfed the building, I’m sure they would be singing a different tune faster than you can blink.
