Charles Ramsey, the man credited with rescuing the Cleveland kidnapping victims from the Seymour Avenue house of horrors earlier this year, has a book deal.

It’s not surprising, really, given that he shot to fame for putting down his Big Mac to help pull Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight to freedom, and for then giving a widely candid interview about the experience.

His book announcement comes on the heels of book deals from all three victims.

Ramsey will co-author the book, which doesn’t have a title yet, with Randy Nyerges who helped former Cleveland Browns defensive back Hanford Dixon tell his story. Nyerges also formerly served as a staff speech writer for the U.S. senate.

Via a press release from the book’s publishing company, Gray & Company:

In his book, Ramsey will give a detailed account of the day of the rescue. He’ll describe living next door to kidnapper Ariel Castro while unaware that the women were being held captive in his neighbor’s house. He’ll tell what it was like to become an instant celebrity. (For example, he says he learned the hard way that when a national TV show flies you to New York City for an interview, that doesn’t mean they also bought you a return ticket to Cleveland.)

Ramsey will also write candidly about his life before the rescue, including growing up as a black kid in a mostly white neighborhood, getting into trouble in school, serving time in prison, and, after release, working as a dishwasher and in various odd jobs to make ends meet.

The book will be published in spring 2014.

  1. Will he tell that Amanda Berry actual escaped on her own and that he was just standing across the street and she ran to him for help he did not free them.

  5. What a worthless book this will be. He did nothing to help those girls. She was escaping and got help from the Dominican neighborhood, who could not speak English so the news media latched onto this guy. He tried to make himself into a hero when the real hero was Amanda Berry who saw here chance to escape and then went back in to get her child. Amanda then told the police that there were others inside. Amanda took a great risk using this opportunity to try to escape, had Castro arrived before she was able to escape, one can only image the horrors that she would have faced. This guy needs to a reality check.

  6. I remember the story in the Cleveland Scene about Snoop Dog’s radio program when Ramsey was called and he asked Snoop Dog to stand by him because he was going to kick Angel Cordero’s ass for claiming he helped Amanda Berry and that Ramsey did not help her. Some hero this guy is.

    Funny how the writer says that the book is going to be about Ramsey growing up in a white neighborhood and his so called issues. Who cares?

  7. This POS will be out in March, get laughed-at, and will end up selling for 99 cents at Marc’s by June, and at library book sales for a quarter by August. Most copies will end up in a Northeast Ohio landfill…unread and ignored.
