The Browns announced today that they’ve signed Kareem Hunt, who was released by the Kansas City Chiefs last year after video showed him kicking a woman in a hallway in The 9. As TMZ and others reported, there were an additional two instances of violence in recent years as well. He’s still facing a suspension by the NFL.

Anyway.

John Dorsey’s statement on the move:

“My relationship and interaction with Kareem since 2016 in college was an important part of this decision making process but we then did extensive due diligence with many individuals, including clinical professionals, to have a better understanding of the person he is today and whether it was prudent to sign him. There were two important factors: one is that Kareem took full responsibility for his egregious actions and showed true remorse and secondly, just as importantly, he is undergoing and is committed to necessary professional treatment and a plan that has been clearly laid out.

“We fully understand and respect the complexity of questions and issues in signing a player with Kareem’s history and do not condone his actions. Given what we know about Kareem through our extensive research, we believe he deserves a second chance but certainly with the understanding that he has to go through critical and essential steps to become a performing member of this organization, aside from what the NFL determines from their ongoing investigation. We fully understand that Kareem is subject to discipline by the NFL. Here at the Browns, there is a detailed plan with expectations laid out that he understands and must follow, because any similar incident will not be tolerated. We will support Kareem through this process and utilize our resources, however permitted, to help him become successful on and off the field as long as he continues to show the commitment necessary to represent this organization.”

  1. Kareem Hunt’s agent earned a bonus by quickly stuffing him into a treatment facility and keeping him out of the headlines until this announcement. Actually, it will be interesting how ESPN Cleveland covers the story in the coming weeks…….due to the sordid past of mid-morning show co-host Tony Rizzo.

  2. We seem to get all the damaged goods…two words…Davone Bess…whatta mess.
And there are plenty of other two-word combinations one could substitute.
Time will tell if “Karem Hunt” will be among them.

  3. I fully support second chances, after the punishment and rehabilitation has been served. Neither has happened yet in this case.

  4. If he brings victory, Clevelanders will excuse him. Remember when they worshipped a racist, illumiati, Satanist just because he was good at bball?

  5. Maybe he thought her head was a football? You know these athletes, they rich and good at ball game but not so good with them brain smarts.

  6. whatever. Clevelands already a trumphole. Who cares if we have another assaulter around, Jackson can give him another chance if he beats another. Besides, the browns need mindless animals to win games,

  7. The other local news outlets have already given this guy a pass for what he did. Clevelanddotcom calls him “controversial” and says maybe he can help people instead of hurting them. At least scene hasnt not fallen under the spell of athleticism this time.

  8. Second chances & rehab, my a__. He is a violent man & should be in jail for his actions. What if that was your daughter, sister, friend etc. A football player, a strong athlete kicking a woman. Really, the only reason he owned up to it is bc it was all caught on video! Did u notice his football stance as he kicked the woman that was he already knocked to the ground. What a piece of crap. What the Browns need are respectable players not this low life just looking at the funds. His actions are not forgivable & shame on you for not defending women & giving him a contract. This is bull & we see right through it. Karma us a b_____!
