“The new Cleveland Clinic cancer building will allow us to centralize the cancer care we provide, creating a seamless, personalized experience for patients from throughout the region, nation and world who turn to Cleveland Clinic in their time of need,” Dr. Brian J. Bolwell, chairman of the Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Institute, said today, announcing the new $276-million cancer care center for which ground will break next month.

The Cleveland Clinic, long held up as one of the world’s greatest institutions for cancer care, is setting out to improve its own track record with this 377,000-square-foot, seven-story building. The Clinic plans to have the facility open in early 2017.

As of now, the Clinic’s cancer care is located throughout the main campus east of downtown, dispersed separately according to individual disease. 

“Whether treated at our main campus or at one of our centers throughout the region, patients will benefit from this more integrated, collaborative approach, which is essential in making progress against cancer,” Bolwell adds via the Clinic’s communications department.

  1. world’s best cancer centers? CC ranked 13th in the US in the latest US News and World Report survey (for whatever that’s worth). They’re not a bad hospital for cancer by any stretch, but it’s not one of their specialties, either. Perhaps the new building is a step towards getting there.

  3. Too many people die because of cancer each year. If this building helps to make that number drop a little lower, then I am all for it.
