Today, the zoo has now revealed that the public’s choice is Kidogo, which means “little.” The reveal comes not just on the longest day of the year (also known as the first day of summer), but also on World Giraffe Day.
Born April 15, zoo-goers have gotten to know the tiny squirt as he’s scampered around mom Jada in the giraffe barn. Then later as he joined his dad, Bo, and the rest of the zoo’s herd in the great outdoors.
At birth the calf weighed around 101 pounds at birth, which was somewhat underweight. This is the zoo’s first baby giraffe in two years. All funds from the animal naming competition are going to help protect wild giraffes.
