Fox 8 reports that Cuyahoga County has confirmed that Cleveland will keep police headquarters at the Justice Center for at least another year.

The city itself has yet to comment, of course.

After Cleveland sold its portion of the Justice Center to the county for $9.5 million it sought a new home for its police headquarters, surveying dozens of sites and options before settling on the purchase of the Plain Dealer building at 1801 Superior Ave. earlier this summer.

It then backed out of the plans as the process hit the final stages, but the reasons behind that decision remain vague. (When that news broke, the city issued a bare-bones one-sentence release reproduced from a letter to Fred Geis: “At this time the City of Cleveland no longer desires to pursue the purchase of 1801 Superior Avenue property for the Cleveland Division of Police Headquarters with GLP Superior LTD. Thank you for working with the City on this important project.”)

The county, which officially took ownership of Cleveland’s portion of the Justice Center on Oct. 1, said the city has signed a $1.4 million one-year lease for police HQ to remain in its current location.
