As we continue scouring the web for the hastily assembled city rankings that a) Allow you delay doing that thing you really should be doing for five more minutes and b) More accurately assess your self-worth as a person and a citizen of Cleveland, some numbers are more eye-opening than others. Especially on a hungover Wednesday morning or a slow news day.
For instance, consider the “Best City in Nation to Find a Babysitter” list from Sittercity. Yeah, drop what you’re doing and read on.
Here’s the methodology: “Sittercity used information including job postings on the site, average hourly cost of a sitter and the number of sitters available in each market to compile the list. Cleveland has more than 5,700 available sitters in the area who get an average hourly rate of $10.31/hour, one of the most competitive rates in the country.” Good, but, um, doesn’t that mean Cleveland-area babysitters also have the second lowest wages in all the country. That’s, um, no good. Thankfully, $10.31 an hour goes a long way in Cleveland, widely known as one of the cheapest places in America, so that is more than enough for bath salts, or pill parties, or flash mobs, or whatever it is the kids are doing these days.
The top ten list after the jump.
