Dont hate on him just because your mom likes him

“I hope to win you over,” Josh Groban said to a nine-year-old girl who was at the singer’s Quicken Loans Arena concert on Saturday night with her mom. He told the girl this after she confessed that her favorite concert was the Jonas Brothers. Groban said they were a hard act to follow.

Groban is quite good at connecting with his audience, as that exchange proved.

Rather than stand onstage the whole night, the 30-year-old singer worked his way through the crowd between songs, talking to fans, cracking jokes, and even finding new talent when a New Philadelphia music teacher told him she wanted to duet. Groban obliged, and the woman ended up getting a standing ovation from the Q crowd and a barrage of praise from Groban, who seemed genuinely surprised at how good she was.

  1. I loved the concert and Josh Groban has an absolutely beautiful voice. He’s such a genuine artist….what you see is what you get and I was impressed. I would go see him anytime and I love ALL his songs! Nothing ‘cheesy’ in my book at all! I also how his show isn’t an ”act”. It’s just him.

  2. I traveled from Pittsburgh to see his concert and am going to make a serious effort to see him when he comes here. He is a true artist. Nothing phoney about him at all. His songs are inspiring, thought provoking, romantic and so much more. Nothing cheesy about him in my book!

  3. I think people who try to be cool say things like “his music is cheesy at times.” The fact is, it’s beautiful music, Groban is uniquely talented and the best thing is, he is HIMSELF and doesn’t try to be “cool”, or anything else. He’s brilliant and not to be missed live.

  4. I completely agree with the three previous posters! I don’t mean to stick on one spot of a great review. I just get weary of the “cheese” factor being spotlighted when, in truth, it doesn’t quite apply. “Cheesy” is what you call lyrics often given to so-called “teenybopper” acts at the beginning of their careers. Now, that’s not an attempt to disparage those artists whatsoever! I think even they would agree there isn’t much depth to those early songs. Josh Groban’s songs may come across as too lovey-dovey for some reviewers. I get that. But, but they certainly are not lacking in depth. They’re just not everybody’s thing. I get that, too. 🙂
