The Avett Brothers have been on tour relentlessly since the start of this year and may have lost a bit of steam by the time they arrived at the LC Pavillion in Columbus Saturday. But despite missing the infamous Seth Avett scream, the band still put on an intelligent, lively and pitch-perfect show.
With 21 songs in the regular set, the performance came in just under the two-hour mark before continuing into a three-song encore. The concert seemed to fly by as the band kept hitting the ground hard with fan favorites both old and new. The set even included an intimate performance of “Tear Down The House” with just the two brothers and a guitarist on stage. Bob Crawford, bassist for the group, also joined the brothers on stage for a cover of “Just A Closer Walk” that the group has only released in YouTube videos. The Avett Brothers have grown tremendously in the studio since they hit the airwaves with “I And Love And You”; now it seems they are taking that experience and applying it to more songs from the 2009 breakthrough album. Songs such as “Kick Drum Heart” had an added energy when played live as the audience clapped and sang along to the refrain as well as the added guitar solo from Seth Avett as Scott Avett’s shadow illuminated on the wall off stage as he stomped about. Maybe that makes it sound as if the group it still full of energy but anyone who knows what the band is capable of knows the energy level could have been higher.

I’ve seen many shows with these boys and this show did not disappoint. They brought the house down, as usual. The set was peppered with old favorites, a brand new song, and the staples we’ve come to expect. The band displayed their mastery of providing a roller coaster ride of energy. Ups, downs, and everything in between. In fact, I saw a punk rock show the following night and the Avetts had more energy from start to finish.
I don’t know what show you saw but the show I attended was beyond fabulous! These boys give 110% EVERY time I’ve seen them and Saturday was no different. I dont think think you’ll find anyone who attended this show that would agree with this review.
They had 23 songs planned on the setlist and took off two including “Die Die Die” and “Father’s First Spring.”
‘Yes, they took off two songs and replaced them with two songs. “Die Die Die” was replaced with “Will You Return.” Scott performed “Murder In The City” in place of “A Father’s First Spring.”
I’m fascinated that anyone could walk away from this show wanting.
But those two songs were replaced by Will You Return and Murder in the city. Also not sure what you mean about Tear Down the House with just the two brothers and a guitarist. It was just Scott and Seth.

I do not agree with the reviewer. I thought this was a fantastic, high energy show, easily in my top 10 of their live shows…and my first TAB show was 1.27.06. Wonderful

Any DEVOTED fan realizes the gift we were given 5/25 at the LC Pavillion. Not only did they play an amazing setlist, they shared with us a new song Part From Me, and stepped off the stage for a closer connection to us, THE FANS! Great show, despite the ridiculous review!
