In the wake of this weekend's events in Charlottesville, Virginia, Cleveland City Council President Kevin Kelley has issued a statement condemning white supremacy.

Additionally, he offered condolences to the family and friends of Heather Heyer, the 32-year-old woman who was killed Saturday when Ohio man James Alex Fields Jr. drove into a crowd of counter-protesters.

Full statement here.
As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “We will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

Now is not the time to be silent. We cannot and will not accept these acts of domestic terrorism based on a bigoted mindset of white supremacy. We in Cleveland will continue to be welcoming to all people.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Heather Heyer as well as to the families and friends of Virginia State Police Lieutenant H. Jay Cullen, and Trooper Berke M. M. Bates, as well as to all who were injured.
