Cuyahoga County Council will discuss a resurfacing project for West 117th Street, covering the hellmouth from Bellaire to Lake. The project would clock in at $1.6 million, paid out of the county’s road and bridge fund.
Though the terminology is fairly boilerplate legalese, the council resolution lists the community’s “public convenience and welfare” as the reason for this project. We couldn’t imagine a more illustrative understatement.
The resurfacing would be expected to begin sometime this year. More information and council members’ opinions will be available during Tuesday’s meeting.

It is a complete embarrassment — the project, though, better be done right (to modern standards)….which means that the road doesn’t explode after a couple years and keeps the money-go-round delightfully circling back to lousy patches and crater madness.
Glad to hear it! But wasn’t this street completely rehabbed fairly recently???
West Blvd. is another one that needs to be done sooner rather than later. Someone broke a tie rod in one of the holes at W. Blvd and Walford. There are two there that are dangerous. I hit one of them. Thankfully, I was going slow enough that it didn’t damage anything.
And to answer Lee’s question, “yes” it was done fairly recently. I think within the past 5-10 years. A road should last longer than that! The city takes the lowest bids and runs with them without thinking that maybe that’s not the right way to go. Cheap is cheap. You get what you pay for. I’d rather my taxes go to having it done right the first time and not having it done by some buddy of the mayor.
Wish they would do that by my house. I’ve got potholes so big when it rains you can go fishing in them. Perhaps when a small child drowns in one the city will fix em.
If you really look close at that picture, you can clearly see that the road is not in need of resurfacing at all. If we’re going to do the project for the heck of it, though, could we hire some workers that do a lot of standing around and not a whole lot of working? That would really just make this project the best ever.
