After just shy of four years on West Sixth Street, Crop Bistro (www.cropbistro.com) will shutter on Saturday, April 30. Five days later, at 5 p.m. on Thursday May 5, owners Steve and Jackie Schimoler will open Cropicana (www.cropicana.com), their casual waterfront kitchen on Whiskey Island (2800 Whiskey Island Dr.; 216-631-1800).
“It’s moving really fast now,” says Jackie Schimoler. “We had hoped to have a ‘closing day’ party at Crop to thank all our friends — but with so much to do before opening Cropicana, it doesn’t look like we’ll have the time.”
Of course, launching Cropicana has been a cool Lake Erie breeze compared to the efforts going into Crop’s new Ohio City location at 2537 Lorain Ave., near the West Side Market. At this point, Jackie Schimoler says permits are all in place, restoration of some vintage plasterwork has been completed, and construction is beginning in earnest. — Elaine Cicora

I wish they wouldn’t leave W. 6th! I don’t see the point of moving the restaurant 5 minutes away. That was my favorite place to have lunch downtown during the work week. 🙁
