The Republican National Convention chairman Reince Priebus announced today that the 2016 convention will be held July 18 – 21 in Cleveland.

“The convention will be held significantly earlier than previous election cycles, allowing access to crucial general election funds earlier than ever before to give our nominee a strong advantage heading into Election Day,” Priebus told Cleveland.com. “We’re excited to continue working with our partners in Cleveland and we look forward to showcasing everything the city has to offer to our delegates and the world in 2016.”

The nabbing of the 2016 convention will, of course, be a huge boost to the local economy, not to mention an opportunity to flaunt our brand spanking new amenities  — a hotel!, a bridge!, a shiny public square!

The question is: Will 550 days be enough time to get the city ready?

  1. If Mayor Mumbles keeps dragging his feet over the Justice Department’s consent decree, the convention should coincide nicely with the administration’s trial for contempt in federal court.

  2. We got the Republican Convention! We got the Republican Convention!

    Yaaaayyyy!!

Oh, no, now we have to let actual Republicans take over the city. We’ll have to watch Reince Priebus prancing around….and what if Rush Limbaugh shows up as a side show??? Not only that but crazies like Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin will no doubt show up.

Oh, good grief, what have we done????
