Andrew Dorogi passed away on March 16 while on a spring break trip to Mexico. The University School alum was attending Amherst College. Family, friends, teammates and classmates have been left looking for answers since then, and have gotten little clarity so far.

The State Department has confirmed his death but provided no details.

“Local (Mexican) authorities are the lead on local investigations,” a spokesperson told The Republican. “The Department does not have the authority to conduct its own investigations overseas. We have no other update to offer at this time.”

Mexican authorities have not responded to requests from multiple outlets seeking information.

A source familiar with the investigation told Scene Dorogi’s death was “a tragic accident,” but declined to elaborate.

Amherst College president Carolyn “Biddy” Martin, in a letter to the school community earlier this week, said his death wasn’t a suicide.

“The cause of Andrew’s death is still unknown and under investigation,” she wrote. “We know from his family that he did not die of suicide. Andrew was loved for his friendliness, joyfulness, sense of fun, and inclusiveness, and we will create an opportunity on campus to come together in his memory.”

  1. this was no accident. You need to keep questioning the Mexican police at Mexico City Airport. They have to have video. They are withholding it. They need to be exposed. Others going to spring break are passing through. Keeping this quiet puts them at risk

  2. HE FELL OR WAS PUSHED…onto the third rail at a rapid transit station that was nowhere near the airport, on an entirely different line. Nobody knows how he got there or why. Like someone changing planes at Midway or O’Hare and ending up on the lakefront and being fried at an L stop there.

Did he piss on the third rail and get electrocuted? That can kill you. Was he pushed in a robbery gone bad, after he fought back? He was a big dude. Was he drugged? Drunk? With someone else? Maybe a whore or a druggie? Something very fishy here.

ABC News has the story on its website and the comments need to be read., for once. They usually are best ignored. They are more than the usual racist crap about Mexico and Mexicans. This is a crime story and somebody down there is covering something up. The irony is, many posters at ABC are saying he was probably safer in Mexico City than he would have been if he’d wandered away from Hopkins and ended up at the other end of the Red Line, in East Cleveland.
