Small business owners and entrepreneurs, listen up: the Detroit Shoreway is hosting a competition today through Sept. 28 for retail, creative arts, entertainment and food and beverage-based businesses to win a rent-free “pop-up” space at 6515 Detroit Ave for the holiday season (mid-October to early January).

“With all the development happening in Gordon Square alongside an exciting theater season, it’s the perfect time to join a thriving community and grow your business,” says Adam Rosen, Detroit Shoreway Economic Development Director. In addition to free rent, the winner will receive a $1,000 grant and free development training. The runner up will also receive development training free of cost.

The application is only three pages and asks applicants to describe what they can bring to the Gordon Square community. This ain’t no college application— folks who are interested shouldn’t hesitate to toss their name on the pile.

Xan Schwartz is originally from metro Detroit and graduated from the University of Michigan in 2013 with a very practical degree in Arts and Ideas.
