Yesterday we learned of Devo singer/bassist Jerry Casale’s tasteless 9/11 wedding production that included a Twin Towers cake adorned with Casale’s and his new wife’s faces, as well as box cutter party favors. Photos of the offensive, and honestly kind of ugly, cake were posted to TMZ as well as Jezebel.

Today, Casale apologized. The musician claimed the whole charade was a humorless prank pulled by a friend and he’s deeply sorry; Casale was neither expecting the 9/11 joke nor amused once it was pulled. The Ravenna-born singer was so embarrassed he tweeted about it, saying the cake and favors were both a “surprise” and a “set-up.”

While there may be merit to Casale’s excuse, the newlywed has yet to explain why, if he was as horrified as the rest of us were, he posed for pictures, smiling with that doozy of a wedding gift.

  1. He shouldn’t be apologizing for anything. Anyone who is offended by this needs to develop a sense of humor!
