When Gerald Strothers was picked up by East Cleveland police in a drug raid last November, the mild-mannered IRS employee claimed it was a case of wrong place, wrong time. After spending a week in the East Cleveland jail and spa, Strothers went public about the horrible conditions there — claims supported by state inspections and acknowledged by city officials [“Jailhouse Blues,” February 2, 2011].

This month, all 14 felony drug charges against Strothers were dropped, and he has sought to have the whole affair stricken from his record. He wouldn’t mind getting his stuff back either.

  1. That because someone has all new equipment and they have to find whose house to go them from….

  2. Thank you Scene for having the guts to challenge East Cleveland City Government and Cops. I have talked to so many people who have been busted and for the most part allegedly robbed at gunpoint by the cops.

As for all of my electronics stolen or lost at the hands of ECPD, SHAME on them.

East Cleveland City Council meets on the First and Third Tuesdays of the month at 6:30 PM, City Hall. Normally there are not more than 10 folks interested in the affairs of EC but I truly hope that a few more people attend the next meeting.

I wonder if this mayor knows that getting an endorsement from the ECPD Union means nothing since the majority of the cities cops live way out in the suburbs and country.

  3. 10/1/2011 – Cuyahoga County Assistant Prosecutor Molly Murphy has decided that since the charges were dropped EC cops get to keep everything they stole. Judge Gaul vows that we will one day have a hearing on the motion I filed in March. LOL

In the meantime, Ohio Supreme Court spanked EC Mayor Norton by not even allowing him to file an answer to my case to audit the city. I will be filing case number two in about a couple of weeks and that should be even more detailed than the first one.

My wish is that EC people stop being scarred to death of the police and see that even with the lies and junk they continue to throw at me, I’m still standing.

    My number is (216) 324-4783 and I answer 24/7
