Former Cleveland Mayor George Voinovich Passes Away at 79

George Voinovich, former mayor of Cleveland, governor of Ohio and U.S. senator passed away early Sunday morning.

He was 79, and would have turned 80 in less than a month.

Several statements have been released:

Voinovich was mayor of Cleveland from 1980 to 1989, the 65th governor of Ohio from 1991 to 1998 and a U.S. senator from 1999 to 2011.

George Voinovich brought to the city of Cleveland a renewed sense of true public service and a realistic vision of the future…..after a few years of childish demagoguery and whiny egotism occupying the mayor’s office.
