George Voinovich, former mayor of Cleveland, governor of Ohio and U.S. senator passed away early Sunday morning.

He was 79, and would have turned 80 in less than a month.

Several statements have been released:

Voinovich was mayor of Cleveland from 1980 to 1989, the 65th governor of Ohio from 1991 to 1998 and a U.S. senator from 1999 to 2011.

One reply on “Former Cleveland Mayor George Voinovich Passes Away at 79”

  1. George Voinovich brought to the city of Cleveland a renewed sense of true public service and a realistic vision of the future…..after a few years of childish demagoguery and whiny egotism occupying the mayor’s office.
