Update: Earlier this year we told you about Geiger’s plans to open up a downtown Cleveland location. Today, the doors of the sporting goods store swing open.

Located at 1020 Euclid Avenue, the Lakewood-based retailer hosted an opening reception last night and will indulge in an official ribbon cutting celebration at 11 a.m. this morning, WKYC reports. The biz will open to the public shortly after.

Geiger’s, the Lakewood-based clothing and sporting goods store, announced today its plans to open a downtown Cleveland storefront later this year.

The new digs will live at 1020 Euclid Ave., directly east of Heinen’s.

“We look forward to serving downtown residents, visitors and workers and to be part of the rebirth of our city,” co-owner Gordon Geiger said in a press release.

“We are bringing the same high quality products and service that people find in our other stores to our new downtown location. We are also planning to preserve some of the unique characteristics of the historic Ivory Building in our store design,” he said.

Shoppers can expect the store to carry an array of outdoor, weather-friendly garb, that will certainly come in handy for weekend camping trips to Hocking Hills or cabrewing in the Mochican valley.

Look for a fall 2015 opening.

  1. Actually the bigger story of which this is an important component, is the return to elegance on Euclid Ave. – in a restored sense and aslo in a retail sense

  2. I wish them much success with their new venture. Chas and Gordon are great civic boosters who engage with the community where they do business in a very positive sense. Geiger’s has customer service like no other business you will ever experience. I have been a loyal customer for nearly 30 years and there are some things that I will consider buying from them. If they do for Cleveland what they have done for Lakewood, Cleveland and downtown in particular will be much better off and we may actually have downtown retail again!
