The father of Cleveland kidnapping victim Gina DeJesus responded publicly to the news of Ariel Castro’s suicide on Saturday at the Hispanic Heritage Parade in Lorain, OH.

According to ToledoNewsNow, Felix DeJesus said his family is “speechless” and surprised by the kidnapper’s prison suicide.

A report by 19 Actions News also said that the DeJesus family has offered condolences to Castro’s mother.

DeJesus made the brief statement before the start of Saturday’s parade in efforts to draw attention to other kidnapping cases. Michelle Knight was also in attendance.

The three women have yet to comment on their captor’s suicide.

  1. Yeah, I’m curious if they’re glad he’s dead, or disappointed that he won’t be rotting away in jail for the rest of his life. At the same time, with all they’ve been through, I’m not expecting any sort of explanation or comment from them. I think they’ve earned the right to handle this any way they want to.
