The number of vacant houses in Cleveland nearly doubled between 2000 and 2010, according to a new Government Accountability Office report. Of course, any astute Clevelander doesn’t need a report to tell them that housing vacancies went from 11 to 19 percent —all one has to do is drive around to see that.
The GAO also pegs Ohio as having the tenth biggest increase in vacant housing in the country during the past decade—a jump of 50 percent, the Dayton Daily News reports. More grim news for Ohio: it ranked eighth in the nation for the percentage of home loans in foreclosure and 18th in unemployment rate.
But all this data is from a whole year ago and throughout 2011 we’ve been told the economy is recovering. So things must be looking up now, right?

This is happening because the cities are killing ANY ability for growth. I have a $2,000 water bill that the water department cannot and will not explain, or fix. Garbage cans I have been ordered to use and a $150.00 fine if I put garbage out the night before. A street sweeper that comes only to write a ticket on my car! The city of Cleveland is attacking its residents. I purchased a vacant home to fix it up and sell to a needy family and the city wrote me up for putting a sign on the side of the home (guess they want money for hanging a sign on your own home) I am trying to fix up abandoned homes to sell lease to own for families and it seems no one is trying to help. This is fine but please don’t get in the way! Close Burke and give the 1.5 million lost every year to organizations that ADD to the community or close the golf courses the city owns and use the 1.5 million lost each year to hire more police! Why is the city acting as an investor, property manager and golf course owner? Losing millions of taxpayers dollars in the process?
I like what you are trying to do Red, and it does often seen that the people who want to help poor and troubled families and people, get paper-worked to death or control-freaked in one way or another. Censorship is very big in the media of Cleveland today and it is good that you post on clevesene and not the pd’s censorship freaks—just another type of control freak in the way of our constitution rights. Our congress would like to give censorship rights to all of the big names so that if they are mentioned they can censor the whole public communication. The PD is being infiltrated by the Columbus boys with the governor leading the charge. Hope this is not censored, because I have been censored by the pd 25% of the time and now it is up to 100% as they have given the ‘permission not granted’ default to me. This makes me happy because I know I am hitting some serious nerves down rt 71.
After the Jimmy and Frank show in Cleveland the republican party was at it’s very happiest. They could lump not just all democrats in the area as one big corrupt group of liberals spending tax payer money, but they were all in cahoots. While Jimmy and Frank played the Al Capone and Jimmy the Weazel game, every non-republican became a crook and all republicans became the voice of reason and control. But they would also include being against the republican party pertaining to the governor and his group of brain power, as being unAmerican and unOhioian. All of Ohio became Columbus politics and they pulled the PD out of a liberal and less controlled paper, into the censorship and closed-minded rag it is today. I know there is Dispatch control-freak shit going on with the owners of that rag pushing us around up here and stopping our liberal and left thinking guys like me from communicating.
One of the leaders of the Green Party is Bob F. of OSU. He is perhaps the only one in Columbus with a paper not controlled by the Wolfe family.. which is the same as being controlled by the republican party. The Dispatch of Columbus may be the only paper which the FCC has granted a grandfather pass to so far as censorship and unbiased main media reporting. They can pretty much do as they like in Columbus so far as media slant is concerned. Because the Wolfe family runs things behind closed doors, they are too busy control-freaking the media to actually work toward a more free communication process between the people. They have been in this position of control of the media for over a century and they have become very good at keeping all other opinions out of central Ohio..And now I think they may have the PD under their belt and in their pocket…Same pocket our governor works out of–the republican mob. I think I might rather be up against Jimmy D…but than he was little more than hot and wanna be air. These guys around the Wolfe family and the governor are far more dangerous than any thug we have in Cleveland..and ten times more ruthless.
the mistake on the lake….cleveland !
