Youngstown rockers Asleep are gearing up for the release of their new album next month by giving fans an early listen to the record’s opening song.
Head on over to Guitar World to hear “Hip to Deaf.”
Like Cloud Nothings’ new album Attack on Memory, Asleep’s Unpleasant Companion was recorded in Chicago with Steve Albini.
And like the excellent new Cloud Nothings’ album, Unpleasant Companion is really good.
It comes out on February 7. —Michael Gallucci

2011 moved in choppy steps in Cleveland
The Jimmy and Frank crisis
Anthony Sowell and the Imperial Avenue hell house
Demolished nightmares creepy and muderous
Sb5 and a governor gone angry and powerful
Columbus Dispatch taking over the PD from the south and the right
People separated by president hate or like
Jobs held onto with fearful and slippery hands
More poor and homeless and uncared for
More resentment by true hard working tea party people
Occupy Wall Street and Cleveland with hope
1% claiming rape and poop flinging
Get a job and take a bath and get a hair cut
The same advice which was given to the same protesters forty years ago
Civil rights becoming right again
Racism being seen as wrong again
America and Cleveland in lock step
Choppy and spastic and handicapped
But more real and more truthful
Arab Spring and tyrants exposed and faught
Human rights and environment not enimies of business
911 wearing off some of the hatred aimed at Islam
Peace may be possible in this century
Seven billion with one billion thirsty and waterless
One billion on a desert with no safe water
Only sewage to drink and sand to eat
But hope in Cleveland candle lit
Free speech not dead
Nor God or love
2012 not the end
But the beginning
A chance to choose again and atone
And forgive
