Hotz Cafe
2529 West 10th St., Cleveland
This Tremont bar has been in the same family since 1919. Back in the days of League Park, it used to be a favorite hangout of visiting ballplayers and was frequented by the likes of Babe Ruth, Lou Gherig and Ty Cobb. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt is also said to have thrown back a drink or two at this dive.

Over the last century, Hotz Cafe, 2529 W. 10th St., has stood tall as its Tremont neighborhood surroundings ebbed and flowed. Presidents (FDR, allegedly), baseball players (yes, the Great Bambino) and actors (we’re talking the cast of The Deer Hunter here, including Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro) have all ventured inside the family-owned establishment for respite and beverages. But this Saturday, the old-school bar celebrates servicing the good working people of Tremont with a 100th birthday party.
Bringing in live bands to help kick off the festivities at 4 p.m., expect appearances from Cleveland bands The Luckey Ones, Sandman and the bar’s own Mike (MADDOG) Kovach.
Be sure to bring along some quarters to hit up that addicting shuffleboard table while you’re there. Find out more about the event right here.
Check out a whole host of other Cleveland bars and restaurants that have stood the test of time, too, right here.
