Hudson-based catering company Scott’s Fire and Ice has been tapped to be featured in an episode of the Travel Channel’s new series Fandemonium starring Adam Richman of Man vs. Food. The show takes viewers along as Richman explores this country’s most popular events, wildest fans and most compelling foods.
Owner Scott Mackay, a former contractor turned mobile restaurateur, operates Fire and Ice Catering, which boasts a mobile wood-fired pizza oven. Housed in a 12-foot trailer, the oven is heated to a blistering 800 degrees using a combination of ash, maple and oak woods. At those temps, the Neapolitan-style pies are done in less than two minutes.
As to how Mackay got the attention of the show’s producers, he says, “We participated in the Thunder Under Louisville festival, the kick-off party for the Kentucky Derby. While we where there the Travel Channel approached us about the idea of out-of-the-ordinary foods and Richman’s new show. You don’t see wood-burning ovens at festivals, so we knew we fit the concept.”
Mackay said Richman was a great guy, and he loved Fire and Ice’s Margherita pizza made with tomato sauce, fresh basil and mozzarella.
Mackay is not kicking back on his couch waiting for the show to air. In fact, his catering company, which also sells fresh-made gelato and sorbet (hence the Ice), is booked through October.
“During the week we will being doing a corporate lunch, then set up shop at places like the Tremont Farmers Market or a winery in Barberton,” explains Mackay. “The weekends we keep open for Ohio festivals and private events.”
Look for the show to air sometime in July.
