This is just a nice preview to this weekend’s Cuyahoga County executive inauguration, in which Armond Budish ascends to the highest political office ’round these parts. NEOMG’s Andrew Tobias uncovered some fancy legal work performed by Budish that got him out of a driver’s license suspension — efforts, by the way, undertaken precisely as incumbent exec and gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald was facing his own bizarre driver’s license revelations.
Read the saga, which basically involves Budish pleading guilty to driving 49 in a 35, then delaying hearings on his 11th and 12th driver’s license points long enough to let a 2012 speeding ticket slip off his record. That earlier infraction involved driving 82 in a 60 without his license in Linndale, which is just straight-up nutty if you’re the guy who’s supposed to know and run Cuyahoga County.
Anyway, tiki hut purchasing this is not. But with a new political term upon us, Budish’s legal dance is a reminder that a savvy attorney is taking up office downtown. Speeding tickets, whatever, but what’s next? Taking mescaline on the job and shooing away the investigation? We’ve seen those pupils. The people, likely also riding the effects of their own brutish drugs, will be watching.
