Scene profiled Monday in a 2016 feature story. He said Thursday that he has been working without a day off in between reporting jobs for 46 years, and that while he had originally planned to depart the station in March, the recent acquisition by Atlanta-based Gray Television “allowed [him] to step back a few months earlier.”
That’s a nice way of putting it!
This departure follows anchor Ramona Robinson’s, who announced last month that she’d be leaving Channel 19 in the wake of the Gray takeover as well.
“As for the trench coat,” Monday added, “it’s getting a bit nasty. Good time for a trip to the cleaners!”

Doesn’t matter who owns Channel 19. When it comes to reporting the news, the CBS affiliate is the fourth horse in a four-horse town, and has been in that spot for decades.
That is nothing but a gratuitous and unfair statement. I, unfortunately, don’t watch much local news. I do personally know one of the personalities at Channel 19. He is a hard worker, an expert in his field and tries very hard to give people the information they want. He is serious about doing the best and most ethical work he can do. For the most part the people who work at these stations honestly try to do the best they can. It can be an overwhelming job with pressure from every direction including directions you never thought of until they hit you. Your gratuitous mocking of these people is very unfair to them. If you have a gripe tell us what it is. Blanket negative statements are not helpful to anyone.
