Update: Kasich, who just recently was talking about his pledge for transparency in government, has changed his mind and decided to let media cover his swearing-in next Monday. Probably has nothing to do with all the bad press he got today. Nothing at all.

The ceremonial inauguration of John Kasich as Governor of Ohio will take place next Monday in Columbus.

The actual inauguration, however, takes place earlier in the day at 12:01 a.m.

For the first time in a very long time, no media will be present to watch the proceedings because… well… there’s really no good reason, except perhaps to add credence to critics’ concerns that Kasich is a shady secretive, backroom politician who will take every opportunity to deny the public information and access.

He’s off to a hell of a start if that’s his goal.

  1. Damned media hounds. They can attend the ceremonial. Let the man be, he’s not even in office yet.
