Ohio governor and low-polling Republican presidential candidate joined the governors of Texas, Michigan, Louisiana and other states today in opposing Syrian refugee relocation to the Buckeye state and U.S. in general.

Via Washington Post national politics reporter Abby Phillip:

Kasich himself spoke to Fox Business News on the topic (via the Dayton Daily News).

“There is no way that we can put any of our people at risk,” Kasich said. “Should anybody come in here before the end of the year? The answer to that should be no. We should not jeopardize our people. And so it’s not just an issue of the heart. It’s also an issue of the head.”

  1. Kasich seems to understand that he can’t refuse to accept them so at least he isn’t pretending to be completely ignorant the way other GOP governors are. Of course, given how Kasich love to wave his Christianity in everyone’s face, it still makes him a hypocrite.

  2. Refugees coming to the United States go through very strict security checks. Kasich is just a hate-mongering blowhard.

  3. Congress, the department of homeland security and the FBI have all admitted to the fact that the process of running “security checks” is highly compromised in this situation. Unless someone is on the terror watch list, there is no way to verify who these people purport to be. So yes, they are being medically screened and asked questions like ” are you a jihadist”, but there is no apparatus in place to verify if their answer is accurate. So Squidly, if your hate hasn’t completely overcome your intellect, maybe you can see a slight bit of danger in accepting refugees from a country that has sworn to attack us within our borders. Please see 911 or Paris or Beirut or………for examples.

  4. On the national stage, Kasich is simply an irrelevant circus clown……who is using the governor’s office as a safe seat to feed his enormous ego, while parading around the country as a “presidential candidate”.

  5. It does no good for a few states to block refugees and others to accept them. These people can move around once they’re in the US, you know. And sure, you can’t verify that these people are who they say they are, but what’s the alternative, leave them to be someone else’s problem? If that’s the case, then fine, but we at least need to do some kind of support, which seems to usually involve $ when it’s America we’re talking about. It really seems like there would be some way to do a screening and figure out who is who, you know?
