No one likes John Kasich. The governor’s approval ratings now have him somewhere between “Weird kid who eats his boogers and has to sit by himself at lunch,” and, “Weird kid who eats his boogers and sits with one other person at lunch.”
Public Policy Polling’s new numbers for Ohio’s embattled leader are not pretty.
“Already at 35-54 approval-disapproval in March, Kasich has slipped a bit to 33-56, tying him with Florida’s Rick Scott for the most reviled governor in the country. Unlike Scott Walker, Kasich’s agenda has not at all rallied his base. He has plummeted with Republicans, from an already somewhat weak 71-18 approval margin two months ago to an abysmal 58-28 now.”
PPP also notes that Strickland would beat Kasich 59-34 in a re-do election if pollsters knew then what they know now.

As a resident of Ohio who voted for Strickland….
D-U-H….!!!???
Voters in Ohio are just as stupid as voters in any other state…
LOL…!!!
To be sure, Ted Strickland was not sterling as a governor, and if there was a better candidate in my opinion, whether s/he be Democrat, Independent or Republican, I would have voted for the individual. However, comparing who was running, Strickland seemed the least evil of candidates – especially the last election where Ted Strickland ran against John Kasich. To tell the truth, in my own opinion, Kasich seemed too plastic, and a strong feeling that he was and is a marionette to a power broker. I think even John knows he is only going to be a ’one term’ governor sent in by special interests to do a dirty job and then get out – a hired gun. Lets see, he wants to lease the turnpike to a commercial interest, fire toll booth operators to install machines in replacing them, and taking away union rights from state workers. Sad to say, my bets are a lot of union workers voted for him. Keep in mind that campaigns are very expensive to run, so he needed deep pockets to finance the campaign for him. Those deep pockets expect something in return – even as a ’one-term’ governor, John needs to please his benefactors. I used to be a copywriter, and we had to invent clever ways to help an entity sell the end buyer a product – whether it was a piece of crap or not – and those spots about Ted Strickland being the sole pariah of huge Ohio job loses to a writer like me, stunk like a skunk – I could see special interests at work. So, I voted for the less of the two evils that was Ted Strickland. For those fools who voted for John Kasich, you’ve just cut your own throat and everyone else’s and the special interests that put Kasich in office are saying, GOTCHA!
What about all the fools who voted for all the fools previous to Kasich who led Ohio into the mess it is in?? No money, no jobs, businesses leaving, cruddy schools, bloated government, political corruption and wasted tax dollars galore, taxes higher than almost every other state. Need I go on? What do you want Kasich to do? You cant turn chicken bleep into chicken salad. Doesnt matter who runs for governor. Cuz short of Jesus Christ, this state is just about beyond saving!
Ditto to queeniez71 and butch 1227.
I believe once the state’s finances turn around from the policies Kasich is trying to implement, the voters of Ohio will see the benefits. Already unemployment has been dropping consistently since Kasich has been in office, and he seems to be taking an active interest in trying to stop the hemorrhage of large companies leaving Ohio (i.e. American Greetings). Neither of Kasich’s two gubernatorial predecessors were able to achieve this. Sure, his ideas might hurt in the short run, but at least he is trying to do something to make Ohio solvent again, and I am willing to wait out the storm.
You people are amazing. All the past polititions have run the state into the sad condition it is in now. You want it fixed? Now you cry when someone tries to fix it. Did you think we could keep doing the same things over and over and get a different result. So Kasich is doing what needed to be done a long time ago and here you are complaining. As they say, you cant have your cake and eat it. Wake up people, the free ride is over.
So I hear some of you saying he is cleaning up the mess of past polititions, which to some degree may be the case. But why aren’t these same sentiments given to President Obama? Wasn’t he put in the same situation where he had to clean up the previous Presidents mess? I didn’t hear “You cant turn chicken bleep into chicken salad.”, or “You people are amazing. The previous President has run the country into the sad condition it is in now. You want it fixed? Now you cry when someone tries to fix it.”, from non-supporters then. Why is it that you only feel that way when it’s your candidate that’s making decisions that haven’t affected you? As long as he stays out of your backyard, he’s doing his job huh?
Once again GREZEGOREK uses foul and objectionable comments! How long will management put up with this? Or is he employed because he is foul and objectionable?
@Sifer: I fucking love your contributions to the comment sections here. We love healthy debate, and shit like that.
Kasich only cares for kasich & his corrupt cronies,he’s just looking for a way to rip off this state again. wake up “RECALL” now before he flushes this state down the drain.
Well after reading the debate I see it like this. The state was gaining jobs while Strickland was still in office. Strikland had four years. the Republicans had the what Sixteen of the last 20 years in power. Remember Bob Taft and his tax cuts? Of course you don’t. Well there is your deficit. since when did the rich need welfare? Where is the shared sacrifice? Kasich is selling off profitable parts of the government. Liquor and the turnpike. why. Giving charters schools more money and no oversight. ECOT is the 21st largest school district in the state and has a graduation rate worse then Cleveland Public Schools. Have you heard Of White Hat? check them out and see how much money he gave to kasich. I guess we need to read our history to discover why there was a progressive movement or a need for the New Deal. When the Browns threaten to leave are we going to raise our taxes and give them shiploads of cash. Of course. Well companies are doing the same thing. when will we wake up.
Usually I’m pretty impressed with Vince’s reporting sprinkled with ample sarcasm without political prejudice but this is downright lazy and half assed. If you are going to use a democrat affiliated poll either mention it or parody it but at least exercise your journalistic obligation somehow.
I’m amazed. His poll numbers should be WAY higher given all those who voted for him. You’d almost get the impression that people voted for him without really understanding his agenda – which was obvious to anyone who took 30 seconds to pay attention. Well, as they say, in a Democracy people get the government they deserve. Kasich clearly is a shill for Wall Street, and that’s exactly who will be taking away our most consistent revenue streams. Way to go people. You got what you deserved. Next time do your research before just acting out emotionally with your vote. Maybe then we can elect someone who can do something with this mess…
Public Policy Polling is affiliated with the Democratic party, so just as if they were connected to the Republican party, Socialist party, etc…, I can’t see how anybody could put any serious stock into it. This isn’t news; it’s party-controlled spin.
Hitler or Stalin must of just missed this mongrel GREZEGOREK’S family
