In a landslide victory with a 30-point margin where Ed FitzGerald also lost his home county of Cuyahoga, a traditional Democratic stronghold, John Kasich won another term as Governor of Ohio and will likely soon set his sights on a possible presidential run for the GOP.

Meanwhile, Ed FitzGerald, who will hand over the keys to the Cuyahoga County Executive position to Armond Budish at the end of the year, got national run of another sort. Namely, as the whipping boy for the Democratic party and a frontrunner, according to national political media, as having run the worst campaign of the year across the country.

The GOP sweep of the major statewide offices also claimed another victim: Ohio Democratic Chairman Chris Redfern, who lost his own congressional seat to a guy who’s under investigation for burglary, announced he was stepping down. Redfern’s awkward press conference last night before that announcement can be found here, where he mainly blames the media.

  1. After reading some of the more idiotic comments about how Cleveland Scene is in bed with Kasich,
    I would have thought the liberal media would have put the blame for FitzGerald’s loss on your doorstep.

  2. It’s the Clinton administration all over again. What, exactly, does all the controversy have to do with Fitzgerald’s ability to execute his job? I’d love to know, really, and without all the “He’s a bad example” BS that always seems to be the knee jerk reaction of most opponents. What someone does off the clock has nothing to do with what someone does on the clock, all that matters is if they’re competent or not. He has accomplished quite a bit in his past, Fitzgerald did great things for Lakewood. But by all means, let’s have another run by Kasich. Let’s have more anti-change, anti-progress policy.

  5. Fitzgerald ran such a poor campaign, he could make a YouTube video of himself punching a baby, and he would gain 5% on Kasich. I’ll admit, I always was bitter at Fitzgerald for leapfrogging out of places he could be helping, and basically making sure he looked good without caring what happened to the places he left. Maybe if he gets a second chance he can just be happy with what he has and not try to leapfrog his way to the White House.
