Kelley Williams-Bolar’s story went national last week, with ABC News and others covering the story of the Akron mom who lied about her residency so her kids could attend Copley schools instead of Akron schools. An investigation by Copley turned up the tampering, a process similar to ones they’ve initiated dozens of times lately to catch parents lying to squirrel their children into Copley, which is not an open enrollment district.
Sympathy was heavily on the mother’s side. Who would blame the mom who would do anything to get her kids into a better school? Which is why it’s not surprising that after serving her jail sentence — nine out of the ten days originally given — Akron Public Schools say that she has served her time for the felony and will be allowed to keep her job.

did Copley return the grandfather’s tax dollars? since he doesnt have any kids enrolled in the district & he can’t send his grandchildren there he should get his tax money in a big refund check
I thought that a felony is a crime which is served 2ys or more in jail. How or when did a felony become if you serve 10days .? I guess like everthing else in this corrupted world things are subject to be changed at their decision.
@disgusted, She was actually sentenced 5 years and all was suspended except the 10 days…..Judge called hersef as being a good sport.
Seriously? There are people out there selling drugs that get probation if it is their first offense and you are going to charge someone with felony and send them to jail for tryng to get their kids into a better school system, a category in which the state of Ohio is sadly lacking. Her dad pays taxes and has no chldren so why couldn’t they attend school via his residence? Why does Ohio always have to be in the new for something stupid or archaic?
What this decision means is that the school systems in the Whole state of OHIO is not up to par. It is a shame that a parent has to go through these type of changes to get their children a good education. Everyone is taught to get that good education so that they will someday be able to take a responsible roll in their adult life, but, you have to go through a lot to recieve that education. Why is it that all schools are’nt “Those type of schools” all children should be entitled to the best eduation,no matter where they live. As tax payers we should so something about this situation. The raising of taxes is not the answer as we can see, since the taxes continue to climb and the level of education continues to declins, we know that this is not the answer to the problems our educational system is having. Children from less affulant families need and want the same educational benifits that children from rich families get, and they should not be denied this type of education simply because they are not rich. Education, a good education is for all the children of the USA. Money should not keep a child from learning from the best.
