Update III: To put this story to rest: Kevin Liptrap, the former Fairview principal who admitted to stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the school, was sentenced to five years of community service, 90 days in a halfway house, and will have to repay every single penny he stole. Also, he’ll be forfeiting his pension. (Fox 8)
Update II: Former Fairview High School principal Kevin Liptrap admitted to stealing $60,000 from the school’s activities fund and has been ordered to repay the sum, according to the Ohio Auditor’s office.
Liptrap was indicted in June on charges of theft. Prosecutors say he pillaged the fund for himself for just over two years, yanking tens of thousands of dollars that he then used on golf and other personal joys on the taxpayers’ dime.
The school contacted the auditor’s office in September 2010 after noticing chunks of change missing from the athletic department’s account. When thousands of dollars were traced to payments at Sweetbriar golf club in Avon, Liptrap said it was for the golf team to practice there. The golf team, of course, did not practice there.

i agree with you i think Deitsch took the money. I am a former Fairview High school student (class of 2010) i dont think liptrap would do this. He is a great person.

OK…….I’m a parent of a student who goes to FHS. If Liptrap wasn’t guilty than why did he RESIGN? Im my opinnion, if a party resigns than quilt has been admitted. If Liptrap had nothing to hide than he would have stayed to prove his innocense. Nice guys are a dime a dozen, just because we think we know someone doesn’t mean we really KNOW them. Hate to let you folks in on a little secret, but not everyone who resigns is guilty. I agree with the person who reminded us that everyone in this country who is accused of something is innocent until proven guilty. Mr. Liptrap was all about respect and he certainly brought it to Fairview. To the person who said he admitted to guilt, I wonder who the admission was made to? Deitsch? Perhaps Deitsch has an agenda of his own following the fall of Dimora and Russo. Notice how gleeful he seems in the news? I didn’t hear a confession from Liptrap personally, did you? Let’s try to remember all the good that Mr. Liptrap brought to Fairview High School, including the rating of Excellence by the State of Ohio rating system. Sometimes people are wrongly accused and even if they are acquitted, the accusation ruins their careers. I, for one, will be praying for Mr. Liptrap and his family during a very dark and difficult time.

Ive known Kevin Liptrap since I was one years old.You will never know him like I do and you never wil.Let me tell u a little about Kevin Liptrap even as little kids we all looked to Kevin as a role model,he was a few years older than me and always set a good example.He was a great athlete as well as a student and never had a unkind word to say about anyone.Those who do not know Kevin should not judge him.Its a gift to have had Kevin in my life and I will never stop looking up to him.Keep your head held high Kevin!
It sounds like a lot of people are behind Kevin Liptrap. Even good people make mistakes, but let’s wait and see how the story unfolds. All is not yet known. It it turns out NOT to be true, a lot of unecessary damage has been done.
I live in Fairview Park and like Mr.Liptrap, met him a few times and doesnt seem like the person wjo would do something like this, but its always the ones you woundnt expect. For all of these people on this site posting comments supporting Mr Liptrap, your drinking the Kool-Aid also because he wasnt found guilty, hes 100 times worse, HE QUIT!!An innocent person lets due process take its toll, present all of the evidence and if possible be found not guilty. A guilty COWARD puts his tail between his legs and QUITS. For a years salary he pissed his career away, nobody put a gun to his head, you make choices, and bad choices get punished. The students responded well to him, parents liked him, the community liked him, but was he thinking of Fairview High when lining his pockets with hard earned activity dough??

Having said that – I feel for Mr. Liptraps family and school community. Maybe he had his reasons – albeit none good enough for what everyone is now going through.
With the situation that schools are in today,how could anyone trust any one person to handle this type of money. I bet you his family was living very well,now everybody knows how.

Its unfathomable to the average worker that someone making $114,000 a year can’t afford his own golfing fees and whatever the $60,000 went to buy. He must have been living well above his means. But then that is really his own fault. His income compared to the average in the Fairview School District had to put him in the upper 10 percentile. Did he really believe that nobody would be able to trace the missing $60,000 over a two year period? Just another greedy and dumb public official.
Oh, and the tan looks stupid. It reminds me of those fake tan sprays you see. More of a pumpkin head look. All he needs to complete the look is a gold chain and a bad toupee.
