The curtain has dropped on the Great Lakewood High School Sweatpants Controversy. The recap: 16-year-old Stephanie Milligan was told by doctors she could wear sweatpants to school after a back injury. The sartorial suggestion, however, was counter to the school’s dress code. As a result, Stephanie and her family locked horns with the school’s principal William Wagner. The girl missed 31 days of class.

Let’s take a step back. We had a gut-feeling this situation would play out in a predictable way: the Lakewood High brass would cave and the teen would be allowed back in the classroom, in sweatpants or some agreed upon form of comfortable clothing. Compromise was surely in the offing; clear heads would prevail.

  1. that poor girl to have to make all new friends half way through highschool. what is wrong with lakewood? that city is so picky about every little thing its residents do.

  2. in this day where many fabrics do have stretch to them, was it really necessary for her to wear sweatpants? She’s changing schools by choice.
