Cleveland’s streets are hot with protests this weekend as groups from Ferguson, Missouri, join the local movement to demand justice for victims of police brutality. 

Charles Wade, an organizer from Ferguson, spoke to a gathered crowd at the Cudell Rec Center Saturday morning, in front of a memorial for Tamir Rice in the gazebo where he was shot by Cleveland police.

Wade said that when his group arrived in Cleveland Friday night, they were assaulted by two employees at the Motel 6 in Middleburg Heights.

The NEOMG’s Adam Ferrise reported this afternoon that at least one guilty employee was an off-duty manager, and that she was intoxicated when she approached the Ferguson group and slapped four of them in the face. She was taken to the police station following the incident and posted bond.  

“The reality is it was a distraction,” Wade said, “but we are undeterred. We love you all. We appreciate your love, and we’re ready for today.”

The protests have been raging all afternoon and have featured, among other things, an evacuation of the Steelyard Commons Wal-Mart and an attempt, foiled by security and Cleveland Police, to enter Tower City on Public Square.

The protesters have been staging die-ins and blocking streets at various intersections downtown, including beneath the GE Chandelier at Playhouse Square.

  2. I’m so glad to know that you can shut down any intersection or freeway you want at any time. Those evil people trying to get home from work should be punished!

  3. News reporter stated most protesters could not name the person they where to protest about…white people are becoming so passive it is beyond belief. wonder what they will say about the black dude who assassinated 2 NY cops, Lebron going to wear a NYPD shirt?

  4. These are the same protestors that support lying “witnesses” who claimed that the robber who was shot in self defense had his hands up and was shot in the back. No one with two functioning brain cells would believe a word coming out of their mouths.

I love how the City and their police have no problem with these numb skulls closing down streets and freeways, including a nice big police escort to do it, but don’t mess with Tower City, damn it! You get close to that casino and we’ll put a cap in your ass. You should have a let them go to Tower City….at least SOMEONE would be in that place.
